The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic P2(1)/c space group with a = 11.2470(3) A, b = 5.9034(2) A, c = 12.0886(3) A, β = 115.143(1)°, and V = 726.58(4) A(3) and consists of discrete monomeric NiCl(2)(o-phenylendiamine)(2) molecules. Each o-phen ligand coordinates in a bidentate mode with the chloride ions occupying trans positions in the resulting tetragonally distorted octahedral coordination sphere. Two discrete sets of N-H···Cl hydrogen bonds link the octahedral molecules into a two-dimensional network, with type 1 interactions linking adjacent monomers along the c axis and type 2 interactions linking monomers along the diagonals in the bc plane. Abstract This paper reports the synthesis and complete characterization (structural, spectroscopic and magnetic) of [Cu(HBIMAM)Cl(C4O4)]n · (H2O)n [BIMAM = bis(imidazol-2-yl)methylaminomethane]. This compound is made of infinite chains – running along c axis – built from [CuCl(HBIMAM)]+ units bridged together by μ-O1,O3-bis(monodentate) squarate anions. Non-covalent interactions (H-bonds and π–π) drive the build-up of an infinite three-dimensional array. The coordination polyhedron about the copper(II) ion is distorted square pyramidal. Five new complexes of formulae [M2(4,4′-bpy)(Memal)2X2]n [M = Fe(III) (2), Mn(II) (3), Co(II) (4), Ni(II) (5) and Zn(II) (6), and X = Cl−/OH− (2) and H2O (3–6); 4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine and Memal = methylmalonate dianion] have been synthesized by following the previously reported procedure for [Cu2(4,4′-bpy)(Memal)2(H2O)2]n (1). The successful utilization of the “direct synthesis” approach yielded the unprecedented hexanuclear complex of formula [Co2MnII2MnIV2(L1)4Cl2(μ3-O)2(dmf)4]·2dmf (1) (H3L is the Schiff base derived from the condensation of salicylaldehyde and 3-aminopropane-1,2-diol). Single crystal X-ray analysis revealed that 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system P21/c and it contains a rare mixed-valence {CoIII2MnII2MnIV2(μ2-O)8(μ3-O)2} core where all metal ions are linked through the phenolato and alkoxo groups of the L3− ligand. Abstract This paper reports the synthesis, X-ray structure and magnetic characterization of [Cu2(HBIMAM)2(C4O4)3(H2O)2]n·2nH2O [BIMAM = bis(imidazol-2-yl)methylamino methane]. This compound is made of infinite chains – running along the [1 1 0] direction – with copper ions bridged by μ1,3-squarato ligands. Furthermore, these chains are further cross-linked through additional squarate anions (with the same μ1,3-bis(monodentate) bridging mode) to generate two-dimensional sheets parallel to the ab plane. A discrete dicopper(II) system, [Cu(bipy)(H2mpba)]2·2H2O (1), and its isomeric chain, [Cu(bipy)(H2mpba)]·dmso (2) [bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine and H4mpba = N,N′-1,3-phenylenebis(oxamic acid)], were obtained by modifying the ratio of the H2O–dmso solvent mixture, and their interconversion was also monitored by changing the solvents during the synthesis. The solvents play an essential role in the formation and crystallization of these complexes, presenting different dimensionalities and connectivities. Synthesis, X-ray crystal structure and magnetic study of the 1D {[Cu(N,N-diethyl-1,2-ethanediamine)(μ1,5-dca)(dca)]}n complex

Abstract A new complex, {[CuL(μ1,5-dca)(dca)]}n (1), has been synthesized from the reaction of Cu(NO3)2 · 3H2O, N,N-diethyl-1,2-ethanediamine (L) and sodium dicyanamide (Nadca) in aqueous medium. Single crystal X-ray analysis reveals that the complex has a 1D infinite zigzag chain structure in which copper(II) ions are bridged by single dicyanamide ligands in an end-to-end fashion. The chains propagate parallel to the crystallographic b-axis and they are stacked one upon another along the c-axis.
