Gadoria (Antirrhineae, Plantaginaceae): A new genus, endemic from Sierra de Gádor, Almería, Spain

2017

The surprising discovery of a population of a new species of Antirrhineae (Plantaginaceae) has also given rise to the description of a new genus situated in the subtribe Maurandyinae: Gadoria falukei. This is supported by the characteristics of the flower, pollen grains, seeds and capsule, and phylogenetic results based on DNA sequences. The species is endemic from Sierra de Gádor, Almería, Spain. Scanning electron microscopy was used to explore micromorphology of the capsule, indument, and seed and pollen grains ornamentation. Additionally, chromosomal number, preliminary insights on reproductive biology, phylogenetic position within Antirrhineae, ecological data and conservation status of…

Remarks on the type material of Linaria cavanillesii Chav. (Antirrhineae, Veronicaceae)

2013

ABSTRACT Some aspects concerning the type material of Linaria cavanillesii Chav. (Antirrhineae, Veronicaceae), which are conserved in different herbaria, are discussed. This name had previously been lectotypified on Tournefort's collections that are kept at the herbarium P, though they had been regarded erroneously as syntypes. Evidence is shown on the existence of a duplicate of the lectotype (isolectotype), which is conserved among the Salvador herbarium at BC (Institut Botanic de Barcelona), as well as of syntypes deposited in MA on which the illustration by Cavanilles cited in the protologue was drawn. Historical data are reported on collection sites and dates for all cited syntypes of …

Taxonomic Study of Linaria depauperata and L. supina Complexes in Eastern Spain

2001

Abstract Morphological characteristics were studied in two groups of closely related taxa of section Supinae , Linaria depauperata and L. supina , from eastern Spain. Vegetative, floral and seed characteristics were of little use in distinguishing between these taxa as the ranges for all the taxa studied overlapped. Flower colour could be used as a diagnostic character for some but not all of these taxa. Seed coat characters were of high taxonomic value, both when trying to distinguish among these two groups, and the taxa included within them, and also when establishing relationships among the taxa studied. Some differences were found in the indumentum distribution and density. Three types …

A new taxonomic arrangement in "Linaria" sect. "supinae" ("Antirrhineae")

2008

Crespo, Juan & M. Bernal, comb. & stat. nov. As a result of a study of macromorphological and seed features of Linaria benitoi Fern. Casas, endemic to Cabo de Gata (SE Iberian Peninsula) and taxa included in the L. oblongifolia group, the variability and morphological relatio…

Allozymic variation and divergence in three species of Antirrhinum L. (Scrophulariaceae-Antirrhineae)

1999

Abstract An allozymic study of three wild species of Antirrhinum L.—A. lopesianum RothmA. mollissimum Rothm. and A. microphyllum Rothm.—is described. All are members of subsectionKickxiella Rothmand are narrow-range endemics of the Iberian Peninsula. The variability of the different loci, as well as the number and mobility of the alleles, differ among the three species, a demonstration of the usefulness of allozymes for the systematics of the genus. The finding of alleles unique to each species indicates high divergence among species suggesting ancient diversification, and supports the hypothesis of a geographical model of speciation. All three species show high levels of within-species var…

Seed morphology of Linaria species from eastern Spain: identification of species and taxonomic implications

2001

Abstract Seed morphology of 15 taxa of Linaria from eastern Spain has been studied using stereoscopic and scanning electron microscopy. Four different morphological types are described according to features of the seed-coat surface. The type that includes winged seeded taxa is divided into three subtypes. Seed morphology of each type and subtype is described, compared, illustrated and discussed according to its taxonomic and biological implications. A key to identify the different species or groups of species is also supplied.

Typification of seven names in the genus Antirrhinum (tribe Antirrhineae, Plantaginaceae)

2021

The typification of seven names in the genus Antirrhinum (tribe Antirrhineae, Plantaginaceae): A. charidemi, A. latifolium, A. molle var. mollissimum, A. molle var. marianum, A. sempervirens, A. siculum, and A. valentinum is discussed. The designation of the nomenclatural types is based on the consultation of original material and the literature cited in the respective protologues. The names are lectotypified using specimens from BC, C, MA, and an illustration of Boccone published in 1697. An epitype is also designated for A. latifolium due to ambiguity in the interpretation of the lectotype. The name A. siculum is neotypified from a specimen preserved at VAL, and a second-step lectotypific…

<p><strong><em>Linaria semialata</em> and <em>L. amethystea </em>subsp.<em> aedoi</em>,<em> &lt…

2020

Two new taxa of the genus Linaria are described, illustrated and compared, through a morphometric analysis, to morphologically similar species from L. sect. Supinae: L. amethystea, L. diffusa, L. intricata, and L. orbensis. A Principal Component Analysis and Linear Discriminant Analysis were carried out in order to find out which morphological characters were the most important to discriminate these species. Morphometric analyses revealed that discrimination of species were more related to their particular morphological character combinations than to a private character. Two taxa are described as new to science, by providing a detailed description, illustrations, scanning-electron micrograp…
