The five manuscript texts in Italian, written almost entirely in America, to which the writer from Polizzi Generosa entrusted his self-confidence, poetic and civic re-foundation, unfold over a chronological period from 1928 to 1935. We dwell on the intrinsic contamination between autobiography and invention that feeds Borgese’s writing in a web of literary, ethical, spiritual, philosophical and political ramifications. The return of love as a political resource is a phenomenon of modest relevance. In some cases, however, it appears as an instrument and as a theme of possible strategies of response to the changes and crises that marked the twentieth century. In this contribution we focus on the contrasting uses of political love in the very different reflections of Hanna Arendt and Antonio Negri, and in particular on the function that the reference to the past plays in them

N=2 topological gauge theory, the Euler characteristic of moduli spaces, and the Casson invariant

We discuss gauge theory with a topological N=2 symmetry. This theory captures the de Rham complex and Riemannian geometry of some underlying moduli space $\cal M$ and the partition function equals the Euler number of $\cal M$. We explicitly deal with moduli spaces of instantons and of flat connections in two and three dimensions. To motivate our constructions we explain the relation between the Mathai-Quillen formalism and supersymmetric quantum mechanics and introduce a new kind of supersymmetric quantum mechanics based on the Gauss-Codazzi equations.
