The Nineteenth-Century rediscovery of the Oratory of S. Giorgio offers the opportunity to question the conservation methods, historical analysis and creative reception of fourteenth-century painting in this crucial period for the establishment of art history as a scientific discipline. This essay reconstructs the historical circumstances of the discovery of Altichiero’s frescoes and the consequent discussions among connoisseurs concerning the autography and the cultural value of these paintings. La ricerca si incentra sulla committenza artistica e in particolare sulle iniziative architettoniche promosse da una famiglia dell'alta aristocrazia feudale in Sicilia, i Barresi di Piatraperzia, un centro ubicato nell’entroterra dell’isola, attualmente in provincia di Enna. This article presents the history of one of the largest Polish cemeteries in the Eastern Borderlands. Thousands of Poles, including artists, poets, writers, sculptors, prominent politicians, local government officials and soldiers fighting for Polish independence in various uprisings, were buried in the Sapieżyński Cemetery during its 200-year-long history. The necropolis was closed down by the Soviet authorities in 1980, and the entire area was bulldozed. Crushed tombstones were transported outside the city, and a theater building and a hotel were developed on the site.
