Naturalesa humana i alteritat cultural
2010
Beyond cultural differences?
2011
From the outset, modern philosophy has taken an interest in cultural diversity. However, at the start it did so paradoxically, by reducing plurality to the lowest common denominator universal to humanity. In view of cultural diversity, this article analyzes the relationships between philosophy and anthropology when it comes to discerning human nature.
Thought Experiments, Justice and Character
2012
A significant number of philosophers seem to assume that the study of thought experiments in light of a series of sketchy examples (and counterexamples) constitutes the best means to advance the philosophical debate. It is not my purpose to deny that thought experiments must play a role in philosophical reflection on moral issues, but to stress the need to complement this methodological resource with other means of understanding that may help us to discern the moral demands we may eventually confront. For, otherwise, one may unkowingly project onto the thought experiment itself a rather elementary comprehension of our moral practices, which may thereby seem confirmed.
Morality, Self-Knowledge and Human Suffering [introduction]
2012
This essay is in search of some light as to how one should respond to a certain kind of human suffering. The word 'should' undoubtedly raises a normative issue, and also the use of 'one' to refer to whoever may be subject to the corresponding normative demand. Choice of such words is hardly neutral and betrays a certain philosophical stance that, I hope, further considerations in this book will reasonably ground.
Agency in the Space of Reasons. A comment on *The Castle*
2021
The received view regards the agent's experience and the external world as split by an unsurmountable metaphysical gulf; while an agent's desires belong to the inner and motivate her to act in one or another way, the outer is presented as a domain deprived of any evaluative properties. *In the Retrieval of Ethics*, Talbot Brewer argues that we can hardly make sense of our agency if the inner and the outer are thus kept apart, since an agent's motivations must be sensitive to the good and the good must be placed on the outside; it must be experienced as something she confronts. In this paper, I will stress that, in *The Castle*, there is no way in which K. might succeed in separating the inn…

Partisan Photography
2007
The paper analyses Spyros Meletzis photography work in the mountains of central Greece during the German occupation in the Second World War. It shows the relations with the ELAS and ELAM and defends that against the appearances his work cannot be seen as photo-journalism, but as a memorial practice of the resistance fight against fascism. Besides, it shows how the process of replacing painting for photography as the main mean of war representation has not been the same from a chronological point of view all over Europe.
