ANOTĀCIJA Promocijas darbs „Johana Kristofa Broces (Brotze, 1742-1823) dzīvesgājums un viņa rokrakstu kolekcija LU Akadēmiskajā bibliotēkā” ir interdisciplinārs humanitāro zinātņu pētījums, kas veltīts Latvijas kultūrvēsturē īpaši nozīmīgas personības biogrāfijas rekonstrukcijai un viņa darbības analīzei, un tādējādi risina bibliotēku vēstures, grāmatniecības, avotpētniecības, historiogrāfijas problēmas. International genome-wide meta-analysis identifies new primary biliary cirrhosis risk loci and targetable pathogenic pathways

Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is a classical autoimmune liver disease for which effective immunomodulatory therapy is lacking. Here we perform meta-analyses of discovery data sets from genome-wide association studies of European subjects (n=2,764 cases and 10,475 controls) followed by validation genotyping in an independent cohort (n=3,716 cases and 4,261 controls). We discover and validate six previously unknown risk loci for PBC (Pcombined<5 × 10−8) and used pathway analysis to identify JAK-STAT/IL12/IL27 signalling and cytokine–cytokine pathways, for which relevant therapies exist.

Oral lichen planus, hepatitis C virus, and HIV: no association in a cohort study from an area of high hepatitis C virus endemicity

Abstract Objectives We sought to assess the age-specific prevalence of oral lichen planus (OLP) in Mediterranean patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) and to evaluate the features of OLP in relation to sex, smoking, HCV genotype, HIV-1 coinfection, and antiviral treatments. Methods In all, 178 anti-HCV-positive adults (60 women and 118 men; age range 20-66 years) recruited from two cohorts (104 HIV-negative patients and 74 patients with HIV coinfection) underwent oral examination. It is generally assumed that Lucretius’ De Rerum Natura disappeared with the end of antiquity and did not reappear until Poggio Bracciolini’s rediscovery (1417). Yet, the oldest and most valuable manuscripts of DRN were copied in the Carolingian age and reflect a high degree of attention to Lucretius’ text and its content. In the present paper, I argue that by studying more carefully the origin and diffusion of Lucretian manuscripts in Carolingian Europe, it is possible to detect an almost unrecognized connection between textual tradition, grammatical erudition, and literary imitatio. Human natural killer (NK) cells constitutively express the beta- and gamma-chains of the interleukin 2 (IL-2)/IL-15 receptor, and both IL-2 and IL-15 are able to activate NK cell proliferation and cytotoxicity. When IL-2-primed human NK cells are exposed to sensitive targets (i.e. K562) they undergo apoptosis mediated by the beta(2)-integrin CD18.
