The Janus Face of Political Experience

Arendt’s concept of experience can contribute in important ways to the contemporary debates in political and feminist theory. However, while the notion is ubiquitous in Arendt’s thinking we lack an understanding of experience as a concept, as opposed to the impact of Arendt’s personal experiences on her thought. Drawing from her notes for “Political Experiences in the Twentieth Century,” the article seeks to enrich our understanding of the Janus-faced character of political experience. It emphasizes the importance of vicariousness, and argues that experience should be understood as a process of suffering, enduring, and re-experiencing events beyond our conscious control. Ammianus Marcellinus oli 300-luvun jälkipuoliskolla elänyt roomalainen historioitsija ja sotilas, jonka äidinkieli oli kreikka. Hän kirjoitti laajan historiateoksensa Res gestae kuitenkin latinaksi, joka oli armeijan ja hallinnon virallinen kieli. Atlas of the Baltic Languages: Plant Names of Slavonic Origin The article investigates Slavonic-derived plant names in dialects of the two surviving Baltic languages – Latvian and Lithuanian. Historically, these Slavonisms were originally adopted by small-scale regional dialects, which are now disappearing. In 2009, a pilot study for the Atlas of the Baltic Languages was published. It comprised 12 geo-linguistic maps with Latvian, Lithuanian and English commentaries. 2012 saw the publication, in CD format, of the Atlas ’s first volume: Lexis 1: Flora . La producción libraria de Alfonso X testimonia la simbiosis perfecta entre las funciones de gobierno y la labor intelectual y sistematiza su ideario político y cultural, no solo en texto, sino también en imagen. A partir de las miniaturas liminares de los códices regios, se evidencia que el motivo icónico privilegiado en la representación personal de Alfonso X es el rey con el libro: se analizan las distintas variantes de este modelo iconográfico que estampa la amplia gama de atribuciones que conforman el concepto de autoría alfonsí y consolida el modelo de la realeza sapiencial castellana.

El «llibre cortés de lectura» en català: a propòsit del manuscrit F-129 del Col·legi de la Sapiència de Palma

The manuscript F-129 of the Col·legi de la Sapiència de Palma contains three works of Ramon Llull. It is made up of two separate manuscripts belonging to the first generation of Lullian codices (that is, not later than the first quarter of the fourteenth century). This collection is preceded by a remarkable full-page illustration, an analysis of which shows that it was probably based on a similar miniature from a French codex emanating from Llull’s immediate circle. The codicological model applicable to this manuscrit is that of «libro cortese di lettura».

In this paper the idea that the legis actio per manus iniectionem could be applied for the case of the so called lex Aquilia de damno is disputed. There are no valid reasons to reject Göschen’s proposal to correct into ‘aliqua’ the word ‘aquilia’ which ends the line 15 in the fol. 96 uerso of the palimpsest of Gaius’ Institutes. On the contrary, a global evaluation of many aspects, both philological and juridical, leads to the conclusion that Göschen’s reading of Gai 4.21 has to be accepted.

Rękopisy liturgiczne źródłem do badań historycznych

Z okresu średniowiecza zachowały się liturgiczne rękopisy z wielu ośrodków kościelnych Polski i Śląska. Po dziewiętnastowiecznych sekularyzacjach dóbr kościelnych, zgromadzono je w różnych archiwach i bibliotekach. Liczne rękopisy z terenu Śląska zostały już opisane inne czekają jeszcze na analizę. W średniowiecznej liturgii korzystano z wielu ksiąg: graduałów, lekcjonarzy, ewangeliarzy, homiliarzy, psałterzy, hymnarzy, antyfonarzy, sermologów, pasjonałów, legendarzy, sakramentarzy, pontyfikałów, rytuałów, agend, martyrologium a pod koniec średniowiecza pierwszych mszałów i brewiarzy.
