Language Anxiety Levels in Urban, Suburban and Rural Secondary Grammar School Students

The main purpose of this study is to investigate language anxiety levels in Polish secondary grammar school students from urban (N = 223), suburban (N = 48) and rural areas (N = 122). The results show that rural students suffer from significantly higher levels of anxiety over the length of their secondary school education when compared to their urban and suburban peers. These results confirm the findings in the literature of the field, further demonstrating that social and educational deprivation of rural adolescents continues to prevail. It differs from an ordinary S-AT in that prior to selecting the difficulty category, the computer advises examinees on their best difficulty category choice, based on their previous performance. It remains to be clarified whether attachment anxiety is related to the implicit self-concept of neuroticism. There is evidence that gender can moderate the strength of correlation between implicit and explicit measures. The Core Self-Evaluation Scale (CSES) is an economical self-reporting instrument that assesses fundamental evaluations of self-worthiness and capabilities. The broad aims of this study were to test the CSES's psychometric properties. The study is based on a representative survey of the German general population. Confirmatory factor analyses were conducted for different models with 1, 2, and 4 latent factors. The CSES was found to be reliable and valid, as it correlated as expected with measures of depression, anxiety, quality of life, self-report health status, and pain.
