Avances de investigación en educación matemática
2013
In this paper we present a tool we designe…
CLIL modules and their affective impact on students with high English anxiety and low self-efficacy
2019
Many studies in recent years focused on the efficiency of bilingual education in different school settings. If a school pursues a regular implementation of CLIL modules instead of the establishment of proper CLIL streams, the student group that is affected by this teaching approach is much more diverse when compared to the preselected CLIL stream groups. In this regard, also students with high English anxiety and low self-efficacy will have to participate in the modules and it is particularly interesting to see how these student types deal with teaching units held in a foreign language. The study at hand presents results from an intervention at German schools with two biology units taught i…
Work-Family Border Styles and Mobile Technology
2018
Technological innovations and particularly mobile technology have many, complex implications for social life. All in all, mobile technology creates a paradox for employed parents: mobile phones enable better coordination and lower parents’ anxiety over family routines, yet the use of mobile technology increases the need for multitasking and increases the emotional burden of managing multiple roles. It is important to identify differences between workers as not everyone is able to use the possibilities of constant connectivity. This chapter addresses two interlinked topics: first, the possibility for employed parents to occupy different social domains concurrently with mobile technology and …

Parental sensitivity towards infants and toddlers needs is considered significant in developing secure attachment. Secure attachment is further considered decisive for mental health and the extent to which children are at risk of developing mental health problems. Different trea…

In the literature the debate on the weight of environmental factors and genetic factors in determining the development of anxie…
Treating cockroach phobia using a serious game on a mobile phone and augmented reality exposure: A single case study
2011
In vivo exposure has proved its efficacy in the treatment of specific phobias; however, not all patients benefit from it. Communication and information technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have improved exposure treatment adherence and acceptance. Serious games (SG) could also be used in order to facilitate exposure treatment. A line of research on SG is emerging which focuses on health issues. We have developed a SG for the treatment of cockroach phobia that uses a mobile phone as the application device. This work examines results of an N = 1 study about whether the use of this mobile game can facilitate treatment of this specific phobia preparing her for th…
