Geo-neutrino results with Borexino
2015
International audience; Borexino is a liquid scintillator detector primary designed to observe solar neutrinos. Due to its low background level as well as its position in a nuclear free country, Italy, Borexino is also sensitive to geo-neutrinos. Borexino is leading this interdisciplinary field of neutrino geoscience by studying electron antineutrinos which are emitted from the decay of radioactive isotopes present in the crust and the mantle of the Earth. With 2056 days of data taken between December 2007 and March 2015, Borexino observed 77 antineutrino candidates. If we assume a chondritic Th/U mass ratio of 3.9, the number of geo-neutrino events is found to be 23.7(+6.5) (-5.7)(stat) (+…
A Study on the Emigration Enablers of the Romanian Students in Theology
2018
The main purpose of this article is to describe and validate/test a set of hypothetical traits of the theology students from two important Romanian universities regarding their migration attitudes after graduation. The study is based on a consistent questionnaire survey, both in terms of architecture of variables and number of complete responses. After cleaning, processing and doing all the required derivations on the original data, statistical analysis methods have been applied. The results have brought solid arguments to validate all the hypotheses that marked the starting point of this study. They finally proved the importance of specific personal motivations and personality traits as ke…

Event reconstruction algorithms for the ATLAS trigger
2007
The ATLAS experiment under construction at CERN is due to begin operation at the end of 2007. The detector will record the results of proton-proton collisions at a centerof- mass energy of 14 TeV. The trigger is a three-tier system designed to identify in real-time potentially interesting events that are then saved for detailed offline analysis. The trigger system will select approximately 200 Hz of potentially interesting events out of the 40 MHz bunch-crossing rate (with 109 interactions per second at the nominal luminosity). Algorithms used in the trigger system to identify different event features of interest will be described, as well as their expected performance in terms of selection…
La diffusion des NTIC au sein du réseau urbain français et le rôle des acteurs publics
2001
The study deals with the ways in which the general public and the government make use of new information and communication technologies. We analyze the physical locations of Internet sites with “fr” as their domain names. The data were provided by the French NIC center (AFNIC). Using this sample (a quarter of all French sites), we find a rather even distribution of French sites in the Paris area plus the other main French cities, and the remainder of France. In addition, we try to enumerate the initiatives of the public actors responsible for the regional planning of the new information and communication technologies. Firstly, we clarify the economic and legal framework in which public acto…
Hybrid approximation for solutions of high-order integro-differential equations including variable delay
2020
Abstract In this study, a numerical technique with hybrid approximation is developed for solving high-order linear integro-differential equations including variable delay under the initial conditions. These type of problems are of applications in mathematical physics, mechanics, natural sciences, electronics and computer science. The aim of this work is to investigate an approximation with the matrix forms of Taylor and Laguerre polynomials along with standard collocation points. By the reduction of the solution of this problem with regard to the matrix relations, the solution of a system of algebraic equations has been obtained. The usefulness of this algorithm has been demonstrated by num…
Nanocrystallization of amorphous alloys using microwaves:In situtime-resolved synchrotron radiation studies
2009
Important energy and time savings can be achieved with the thermal treatment of materials by replacing conventional heating methods with microwave heating. The nano- crystallization of Co-Fe-W-B amorphous alloy powders under microwave irradiation was followed for the first time by in situ time-resolved synchrotron radiation powder diffraction. It is shown that even a very short exposure to the electromagnetic field (single pulse microwave application) typically of the order of a few seconds is sufficient to obtain the bulk nano- crystalline state. A metastable high-temperature Co-W-B orthorhombic phase forms during the microwave heating, which gradually transforms to the tetragonal Co2B sta…
Transition probability studies in175Au
2013
Transition probabilities have been measured between the low-lying yrast states in 175Au by employing the recoil distance Doppler-shift method combined with the selective recoil-decay tagging technique. Reduced transition probabilities and magnitudes of transition quadrupole moments have been extracted from measured lifetimes allowing dramatic changes in nuclear structure within a low excitation-energy range to probed. The transition quadrupole moment data are discussed in terms of available systematics as a function of atomic number and aligned angular momentum.
Fundamentals of metastability exchange optical pumping in helium
2010
21 pages; International audience; Advances in metastability exchange optical pumping (MEOP) at high laser powers, but also at high gas pressures and high magnetic field strengths, has provided strong motivation for revisiting the understanding of the limitations of this powerful technique. A comprehensive model has been developped for improved description of the combined effects of OP, ME, and relaxation, and of detailed MEOP features observed over the broad range of operating conditions. A brief description is provided, with illustrative comparisons of computed and experimental results. This improved tool is used to explain the excellent photon efficiency of OP obtained at all field streng…
Inclusion complexes of triphenylphosphine derivatives and peracetylated-β-cyclodextrin in supercritical carbon dioxide
2008
The supramolecular chemistry of peracetylated-β-CD (perAc-β-CD) as a host for triphenyphosphine derivatives has been studied in supercritical (scCO2) using UV absorption spectroscopy. It was found that the association constant in scCO2 at 40°C and 300 bar is 10 to 1000 times smaller compared to analogous systems in aqueous solvent. Studies of the thermodynamics of the inclusion process found an enthalpy of association of -30 kJ/mole and an entropy of -55 J/moleK. This difference with respect to water is attributed to the absence of the hydrophobic effect in scCO2 due to the much smaller polarity of scCO2 versus water. To further explore the effect of the solvent on the association constant,…
