Centrality and rapidity dependence of inclusive pion and prompt photon production in p+Pb collisions at the LHC with EPS09s nPDFs

2014

The centrality dependencies of the inclusive neutral pion and prompt photon nuclear modification factors for p+Pb collisions at the LHC are studied using a spatially dependent set of nuclear PDFs, EPS09s. The calculations are performed at mid- and forward rapidities searching for an observable which would optimally probe the spatial dependence of the nuclear PDFs. In addition, we discuss to which $x$ values of the nucleus the different observables are sensitive.

Gluon correlations in the glasma

2010

The physics of the initial conditions of heavy ion collisions is dominated by the nonlinear gluonic interactions of QCD. These lead to the concepts of parton saturation and the Color Glass Condensate (CGC). We discuss recent progress in calculating multi-gluon correlations in this framework, prompted by the observation that these correlations are in fact easier to compute in a dense system (nucleus-nucleus) than a dilute one (proton-proton).

SOX: search for short baseline neutrino oscillations with Borexino

2015

International audience; The Borexino detector has convincingly shown its outstanding performances in the low energy regime through its accomplishments in the observation and study of the solar and geo neutrinos. It is then an ideal tool to perform a state of the art source-based experiment for testing the longstanding hypothesis of a fourth sterile neutrino with ~ eV(2) mass, as suggested by several anomalies accumulated over the past three decades in source, reactor, and accelerator-based experiments. The SOX project aims at successively deploying two intense radioactive sources, made of Cerium (antineutrino) and Chromium (neutrino), respectively, in a dedicated pit located beneath the det…

The high precision measurement of the 144Ce activity in the SOX experiment

2015

International audience; In order to perform a resolutive measurement to clarify the neutrino anomalies and to observe possible short distance neutrino oscillations, the SOX (Short distance neutrino Oscillations with BoreXino) experiment is under construction. In the first phase, a 100 kCi (144)Ce-(144)Pr antineutrino source will be placed under the Borexino detector at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), in center of Italy, and the rate measurement of the antineutrino events, observed by the very low radioactive background Borexino detector, will be compared with the high precision (< 1%) activity measurement performed by two calorimeters. The source will be embedded in a 19 mm …

Basics of doubly heavy tetraquarks

2018

We outline the most important results regarding the stability of doubly heavy tetraquarks $QQ\bar q\bar q$ with an adequate treatment of the four-body dynamics. We consider both color-mixing and spin-dependent effects. Our results are straightforwardly applied to the case of all-heavy tetraquarks $QQ\bar Q\bar Q$. We conclude that the stability is favored in the limit $M_Q/m_q \gg 1$ pointing to the stability of the $bb\bar u\bar d$ state and the instability of all-heavy tetraquarks.

The impact of the LHC nuclear program on nPDFs

2015

Volume: 612 The proton-lead and lead-lead runs at the LHC are providing an enormous amount of data sensitive to the nuclear modifications of the initial state. The measurements explore a region of phase space not probed by previous experiments opening a possibility to test and hopefully, also improve the current knowledge of nuclear parton densities. In this talk, we discuss to what extent the present quantitative results for the charge asymmetry in electroweak boson production show sensitivity to the nuclear parton distributions. Peer reviewed

Optical absorption and Raman spectroscopy of CuWO4

2010

Th e electronic absorption and Raman spectra of CuWO4 are studied as a function of pressure in the 0 - 20 GPa range. The below-gap absorption bands at 1.15, 1.38 and 1.56 eV correspond to Cu 2+ d-transitions split by the Jahn-Teller distortion of CuO6 (Req = 1.98 A; Rax = 2.39 A; Qθ = 0.47 A). Pressure induces a strong reduction of the JT distortion up to 10 GPa. Above this pressure we observe, by optical absorption and Raman spectroscopy, a first-order phase transition at 11 GPa with phase coexistence in the 10-12 GPa range, as it is confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. The absorption spectra suggest that two different Cu 2+ sites are formed in the high pressure phase, each having rather diffe…

Kinetics of phase transitions in vitreous chalcogenide semiconductors AsxSe100m-x-yBiyas studied by the differential thermal analysis and exoelectron…

2011

Kinetics of glass transition (retrification) in chalcogenide semiconductors AsxSe100-x-yBy (x = 20 or 30, and y = 0 and 1) has been investigated by parallel differential thermal analysis (DTA) and exoelectron emission (EEE) measurements. EEE is a surface effect accompanying the structural transformations in the surface layer, whereas the DTA technique gives information about the transformations occurring in the volume of the sample. Temperature dependencies of the DTA signal and of the EEE intensity have been determined and the values of the activation energy for both the volume and the surface retrification have been determined by the Ozawa method for each of the four investigated material…
