Combining Hexanoic Acid Plant Priming with Bacillus thuringiensis Insecticidal Activity against Colorado Potato Beetle
2013
Interaction between insect herbivores and host plants can be modulated by endogenous and exogenous compounds present in the source of food and might be successfully exploited in Colorado potato beetle (CPB) pest management. Feeding tests with CPB larvae reared on three solanaceous plants (potato, eggplant and tomato) resulted in variable larval growth rates and differential susceptibility to Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Aa toxin as a function of the host plant. An inverse correlation with toxicity was observed in Cry3Aa proteolytic patterns generated by CPB midgut brush-border membrane vesicles (BBMV) from Solanaceae-fed larvae, being the toxin most extensively proteolyzed on potato, followed…
Il perimetro variabile dell’insindacabilità dei Consiglieri regionali: la vis politica delle decisioni “strategiche” per l’economia regionale. Nota a…
2022
Corte cost. nn. 69 e 70 d…
Progress in 3-D Multiperspective Display by Integral Imaging
2009
Three-dimensional (3-D) imaging techniques have the potential to establish a future mass-market in the fields of entertainment and communications. Integral imaging (InI), which can capture and display true 3-D color images, has been seen as the right technology for 3-D viewing for audiences of more than one person. Due to the advanced degree of its development, InI technology could be ready for massive commercialization in the coming years. This development is the result of a strong research effort performed over the past few years. In this sense, this paper is devoted to reviewing some recent advances in InI, which have allowed improvement in the response of InI systems to the problems of …
A software for the integrated design of wastewater treatment plants
1998
Abstract A software package has been developed for automated design of wastewater treatment plants. A user-friendly environment has been implemented to facilitate design tasks, allowing rapid evaluation of different alternatives as well as performing sensitivity analyses. Flexible treatment plant configurations can be established with preliminary, primary, biological and tertiary wastewater treatments, and sludge treatment units. A generalized steady-state model developed for biological processes is also included. The design process includes treatment units sizing, plant layout, hydraulic profile calculation and equipment assignment. The system capabilities for designing new plants and upgr…
MMGBSA As a Tool To Understand the Binding Affinities of Filamin–Peptide Interactions
2013
Filamins (FLN) are large dimeric proteins that cross-link actin and work as important scaffolds in human cells. FLNs consist of an N-terminal actin-binding domain followed by 24 immunoglobulin-like domains (FLN1-24). FLN domains are divided into four subgroups based on their amino acid sequences. One of these subgroups, including domains 4, 9, 12, 17, 19, 21, and 23, shares a similar ligand-binding site between the β strands C and D. Several proteins, such as integrins β2 and β7, glycoprotein Ibα (GPIbα), and migfilin, have been shown to bind to this site. Here, we computationally estimated the binding free energies of filamin A (FLNa) subunits with bound peptides using the molecular mechan…
A Logical Architecture for Active Network Management
2006
This paper focuses on improving network management by exploiting the potential of “doing” of the Active Networks technology, together with the potential of “planning,” which is typical of the artificial intelligent systems. We propose a distributed multiagent architecture for Active Network management, which exploits the dynamic reasoning capabilities of the Situation Calculus in order to emulate the reactive behavior of a human expert to fault situations. The information related to network events is generated by programmable sensors deployed across the network. A logical entity collects this information, in order to merge it with general domain knowledge, with a view to identifying the roo…
Applying Real-Time Dynamic Scaffolding Techniques during Tutoring Sessions Using Intelligent Tutoring Systems
2022
An intelligent tutoring system (ITS) is a computer system or software application that is built to replicate human tutors by supporting the theory of “learning by doing.” Even though ITSs have been proven to be successful in academic studies, they still have not found large adoption by the industry due to the complexities of building such systems due to the high technical expertise and domain knowledge requirements. Attempts have been made to build authoring tools that can provide assistance in building tutoring systems; however, most of these tools are targeted toward authors that have considerable programming experience. This research proposes an authoring tool for ITS, which is targeted …
Performance Study of Non-beaconed and Beacon-Enabled Modes in IEEE 802.15.4 under Bluetooth Interference
2008
The IEEE 802.15.4 protocol is a flexible technology with great potential for wireless sensor networks applications. The standard distinguishes two network modes; beacon-enabled and nonbeacon-enabled. In this paper, the performance study of beaconed and non-beaconed modes of IEEE 802.15.4 is evaluated using on site PER measurements. The tests are carryout in an urban outdoor environment with commercial available equipment. Likewise, the impact of Bluetooth interference over IEEE 802.15.4 modes is evaluated. The results show that Bluetooth interference and the mode selected have effects over the PER. Furthermore, for distances between 3 to 10 meters the PER doesn't show significance distance …
SINCONAPP: A Computerized learning tool for CBCT normal anatomy and variants of the nose and paranasal sinuses
2014
1. Purpose To supply an useful learning tool aimed to interactively display on mobile devices normal anatomy and variants of the nose and paranasal sinuses as seen on CBCT images. 2. Methods and Materials Images Images of the nose and paranasal sinuses were derived by a study series acquired by a CBCT device. CBCT studies of the paranasal sinuses were acquired in patients referred for nasal obstruction or sinusitis with the following parameters: 90 kVp, 12.5 mA, 20 s rotation time, FOV 13 x 14.5 cm, 0.25 x 0.25 x 0.25 mm voxel size. Software The application has been developed for iOS based mobile devices through the platform XCode provided by Apple®, and it is developed using the Objective-…
2020
The growth of cloud-based services is mainly supported by the core networking infrastructures of large-scale data centers, while the scalability of these services is influenced by the performance and dependability characteristics of data centers. Hence, the data center network must be agile and reconfigurable in order to respond quickly to the ever-changing application demands and service requirements. The network must also be able to interconnect the big number of nodes, and provide an efficient and fault-tolerant routing service to upper-layer applications. In response to these challenges, the research community began exploring novel interconnect topologies, namely: Flecube, DCell, Ficonn…
