Predictions forNDK,K̄DNandNDD̄molecules

2012

In this work baryon systems made of three hadrons which contain one nucleon and one D meson, and in addition another meson, , K or , are investigated using the Fixed Center Approximation to the Faddeev equations. In this work we use Λc(2595), X(3700) and D*s0(2317) bound states as a cluster and a third particle scattering form that clusters. In all cases we find bound states and quasibound states.

Robust Transmission for Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Aided Millimeter Wave Vehicular Communications With Statistical CSI

2022

The integration of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) into millimeter wave (mmWave) vehicular communications offers the possibility to unleash the potential of future proliferating vehicular applications. However, the high-mobility-induced rapidly varying channel state information (CSI) has been making it challenging to obtain the accurate instantaneous CSI (I-CSI) and to cope with the incurable high signaling overhead. The situation may become worse when the RIS with a large number of passive reflecting elements is deployed. To overcome this challenge, we investigate in this paper a robust transmission scheme for the time-varying RIS-aided mmWave vehicular communications, in which, s…

A correction method for dynamic analysis of linear systems

2004

Abstract This paper proposes an analytical method to improve the accuracy of the dynamic response of classically damped linear systems, as given by a standard truncated modal analysis. Upon computing the first m undamped modes of a n-degree-of-freedom system, two sets of equations in the Rn nodal space are built, which are uncoupled and govern the contribution to the response of the m computed modes and the remaining (n−m) unknown modes, respectively. The first set is solved in the Rm modal space by using the m available modes; the second set is solved in a reduced R(n−m) nodal space, without computing additional modes. Specifically, it is shown that the particular solution of the second se…

Forecasting basketball players' performance using sparse functional data*

2019

Statistics and analytic methods are becoming increasingly important in basketball. In particular, predicting players’ performance using past observations is a considerable challenge. The purpose of this study is to forecast the future behavior of basketball players. The available data are sparse functional data, which are very common in sports. So far, however, no forecasting method designed for sparse functional data has been used in sports. A methodology based on two methods to handle sparse and irregular data, together with the analogous method and functional archetypoid analysis is proposed. Results in comparison with traditional methods show that our approach is competitive and additio…

Batteries for Aerospace: A Brief Review

2018

This paper presents a brief overview on batteries for aerospace application. In particular, More Electric Aircraft (MEA) and All Electric Aircraft (AEA) concepts are introduced at first, together with their main advantages and drawbacks. Subsequently, opportunities and issues related to the employment of batteries on aircrafts are presented and briefly discussed. Reference is then made to aircraft power system architectures and battery technologies, as well as on the state-of-the-art of battery management systems, state-of-charge and state-of-health estimations, and thermal management.

Predicting the Batteries' State of Health in Wireless Sensor Networks Applications

2018

[EN] The lifetime of wireless sensor networks deployments depends strongly on the nodes battery state of health (SoH). It is important to detect promptly those motes whose batteries are affected and degraded by ageing, environmental conditions, failures, etc. There are several parameters that can provide significant information of the battery SoH, such as the number of charge/discharge cycles, the internal resistance, voltage, drained current, temperature, etc. The combination of these parameters can be used to generate analytical models capable of predicting the battery SoH. The generation of these models needs a previous process to collect dense data traces with sampled values of the batt…

Wireless battery chargers for portable applications: Design and test of a high-efficiency power receiver

2013

In this study, the authors present a 5 W wireless battery charger for handheld devices. Efficiency-related issues are addressed. A power receiver architecture which improves power conversion efficiency is proposed. Design hints are provided for further applications. Comparison with a conventional architecture is provided as well. Laboratory prototypes of both the proposed and the conventional architectures have been realised. Both prototypes are tested by using the same power transmitter to perform a valuable comparison. As shown by the experimental results, in the receiver side power conversion efficiency is increased up to 99% thanks to the proposed solution.

Stationary battery systems in the main world markets: Part 2: Main trends and prospects

2017

Stationary battery systems are gaining a lot of interest in recent years, mainly because of their ability to balance generation and demand of electricity over time. The intermittent nature of renewable generation connected to the power grid is causing major stability and reliability issues in the power system, that can be solved also using stationary storage systems, able to provide the ancillary services necessary to the proper operation of the power network. Despite the considerable advantages offered by these technologies, the electrochemical storage industry is still in the nascent state and it is important to identify the main trends and prospects in relation to future technical develo…

An inductive charger for automotive applications

2016

The inductive charging represents a valid solution for the power transfer in automotive applications. Due to the Inductive Power Transfer (IPT), the wireless battery charging of Electric Vehicles (EVs) provides several benefits. In this paper, an inductive charger which is particularly suitable for electrical bicycles is proposed. A practical realization of the system has been carried out, and the system has been tested in terms of working and efficiency. Through a Phase Shift Modulation (PSM), a power regulation has been implemented. The target power is 100 W.
