2011
Masteroppgave i matematikkdidaktikk- Universitetet i Agder 2011 The subject of this master thesis is mathematics in fully digitalised learning environments with a main focus on the tasks that are used in such environments. Traditional text books are not used in fully digitalised learning environments, but tasks are produced and made available through web pages or learning management systems. This arrangement also applies for theory, task solutions etc. In this dissertation, it is the set of tasks provided by National digital learning arena (Nasjonal digital læringsarena, NDLA) that are explored. Through task analysis and interviews with task producers, I have sought answers to the following…
2012
Masteroppgave i matematikkdidaktikk- Universitetet i Agder, 2012 In this thesis I want to study what kind of perceptions students within the study programme ”Bygg og Anlegg” have as regards the theme mathematics and its relevance for their profession. I also want to study the mathematics teachers’ thoughts and opinions regarding this theme. My main question is: What kinds of beliefs have students and their teacher about mathematics and its relation to work. To approach this issue I have formulated the following research questions: 1. What thoughts have the students on ”Bygg og Anlegg” concerning the relevance of mathematics for their own profession? 2. What opinions does the teacher have ab…
Hele kil…
Linear instability of mixed convection of cold water in a porous layer induced by viscous dissipation
2009
Accepted version of an article published in the journal: International Journal of Thermal Sciences, Elsevier Published version available on Science Direct: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.ijthermalsci.2008.06.012 An analysis of linear stability of the stationary laminar Darcy flow in a horizontal porous layer is performed. The porous layer is saturated with cold water. The upper plane boundary is assumed to be subject to heat transfer with finite conductance to an environment at the temperature of maximum density of cold water. The lower plane boundary is adiabatic. Convective instabilities are caused by flow viscous dissipation, inducing a basic temperature distribution that decreases in the u…
Observer-Based Stabilization of Stochastic Systems with Limited Communication
2012
Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from Hindawi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/781542 Open Access This paper studies the problem of observer-based stabilization of stochastic nonlinear systems with limited communication. A communication channel exists between the output of the plant and the input of the dynamic controller, which is considered network-induced delays, data packet dropouts, and measurement quantization. A new stability criterion is derived for the stochastic nonlinear system by using the Lyapunov functional approach. Based on this, the design procedure of observer-based controller is presented, which ensures asy…
ean-Square Filtering for Polynomial System States Confused with Poisson Noises over Polynomial Observations
2011
Published version of an article in the journal: Modeling, Identification and Control. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.4173/mic.2011.2.1 In this paper, the mean-square filtering problem for polynomial system states confused with white Poisson noises over polynomial observations is studied proceeding from the general expression for the stochastic Ito differentials of the mean-square estimate and the error variance. In contrast to the previously obtained results, the paper deals with the general case of nonlinear polynomial states and observations with white Poisson noises. As a result, the Ito differentials for the mean-square estimate and error variance corre- spon…
D-Optimal Design for Parameter Estimation in Discrete-Time Nonlinear Dynamic Systems
2012
Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/296701 An optimal input design method for parameter estimation in a discrete-time nonlinear system is presented in the paper to improve the observability and identification precision of model parameters. Determinant of the information matrix is used as the criterion function which is generally a nonconvex function about the input signals to be designed. To avoid the locally optimizing problem, a randomized designmethod is proposed bywhich a globally optimizing test plan other than input signals may be obtained. Then the randomized design ca…
Performance analysis of wideband sum-of-cisoids-based channel simulators with respect to the bit error probability of DPSK OFDM Systems
2009
In this paper, we analyze the performance of a wideband sum-of-cisoids (SOC) channel simulator w.r.t. the bit error probability (BEP) of differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Analytical BEP expressions are derived for coherent and non- coherent DPSK OFDM simulation systems in the presence of a wideband SOC channel simulator. We also study the degradations of the BEP introduced by an imperfect channel simulator. Using the deviation of the BEP as an appropriate measure, we evaluate the performance of three parameter computation methods, known as the method of exact Doppler spread (MEDS), the randomized MEDS (R-MEDS), and the Monte Ca…
