Network Analysis of Persistent Somatic Symptoms in Two Clinical Patient Samples

2021

OBJECTIVE Previous attempts to group persistent somatic symptoms (PSS) with factor-analytic approaches have obtained heterogeneous results. An alternative approach that seems to be more suitable is the network theory. Compared to factor analysis, which focuses on the underlying factor of symptoms, network analysis focuses on the dynamic relationships and interactions among different symptoms. The main aim of this study is to apply the network approach to examine the heterogeneous structure of PSS within two clinical samples. METHODS The first dataset consisted of N = 254 outpatients who were part of a multicentre study. The second dataset included N = 574 inpatients, both with somatoform di…

Inequalities in Consumption Patterns over the Life Cycle and during the Great Recession

2015

The aim of the study is to analyse the relationship between recession, population structure and consumption behaviour over the life cycle. To this aim, we consider three clusters of non-durable expenditures such as food at home, work-related and core expenditures. The analysis has been performed on micro data on the Household Budgets for the period 1997-2013. Based on life cycle theory, two statistical models has been estimated, viz. a pre-crisis (1997-2007) and a great recession period (2008-2013) model. The study shows that the recession has entailed a reduction of the average expenditure for each category of consumption, and the intensity of the reduction is different among households an…

Territoire et énergie : politiques locales, échelles d'intervention et instruments de mobilisation, de connaissance et d'action

2011

The thesis is about French local authorities' energy policies, and more particularly about regional policies. In a context of reassessment of fossil fuel-based energy systems, local authorities have a key role to play. Indeed, energy systems are complex and require to act locally, in order to keep fair access for consumers and to adapt supply to needs and uses. In the same way, environmental constraints and sustainable exploitation of local resources involve to have a good knowledge of territory and of local energy potential. But, local authorities do not know much about boundaries and about components of territorial energy systems. The main purpose of the thesis is to determine structure a…

The link between induced emotions, the humor style and the sense of life quality

2015

The study showed that there is a link between induced emotions, the humor style and the sense of life quality. According to Martin’s [1] theory stating that there are four humor styles: affiliative, self-enhancing, aggressive and self-defeating, the humor style of people belonging to groups in which one of the following emotions: sadness, aversion, satisfaction and joy, had earlier been induced and the control group was checked by means of the Humor Styles Questionnaire (HSQ). Moreover, in case of each analyzed group, the level of the sense of life quality was measured. The results of this analysis show that the fact of inducing such emotions as joy or sadness is connected with decreasing or…

Translation in foreign language teaching: A case study from a functional perspective

2014

Abstract There is little research available on using translation as a tool to develop students’ translation and communicative competence in foreign language programmes. This paper aims to fill this gap by reporting the results of a localized empirical study, using a functionalist theoretical framework. After a pre-translation source text analysis of three texts with EU topics, data were collected by two methods: a linguistic analysis of the student translations of these texts to identify and analyze the most common translation problems, and semi-structured interviews to explore their individual difficulties. The results show that a functional approach can sensitize students to the relations…

The Cultural Component in the First Language (L1) Teaching: Cultural Heritage, Identity and Motivation in Language Learning

2015

Abstract After almost three decades since the insertion of Catalan (Valencian) within the Valencian education system, its use hasn’t spread through all of the geographical domains and social scopes. In a context of language minorisation, an actual usage of a language is not guaranteed by just acquiring a sounder language competence. For a start we take into consideration a hipothesis defending that even though a comprehension of the goal culture in L2 is not just necessary for a significant use of the language within its society, we also have to realise the importance of the cultural import when using L1. We’ve framed our working field within some research projects which focus on the value …

Les systèmes éducatifs engendrent-ils des inégalités de bien-être ? : une recherche comparative internationale

2018

This study investigates the association between post-secondary education and well-being in international comparative perspective, conceptualizing well-being as a capability-informed measure of flourishing. Based on a combined human capital–capability approach, post-secondary education, operationalized as highest post-secondary educational credential, is hypothesized to relate positively with well-being net of individual-level and country-level controls at both the micro and macro levels of analysis. Prominent critiques of these approaches, suggesting indirect effects through occupational sorting at the individual level and economic factors at the country level, are also explored.Beyond thes…

Submersed in the water, buried in the ground: comparative studies on metal assemblages and single finds from french Iron Age non-funerary contexts (V…

2020

Metal hoards are emblematic discoveries of European protohistoric societies and therefore an extremely dynamic research theme. However, even though there are many synthetic studies concerning Bronze Age practices, they are much less frequent concerning Iron Age deposits. In fact, since 1995 (Kurz 1995), no synthetic inventory on this subject had been carried out despite the regular increase in the number of discoveries since the development and multiplication of preventive archaeological excavations. Under these conditions, it seemed important to update the data and this led to the completion of a master's degree on this subject in 2011 (Le Cozanet 2011). Since then, our research hasn‘t cea…

Moment equations in a Lotka-Volterra extended system with time correlated noise

2007

A spatially extended Lotka-Volterra system of two competing species in the presence of two correlated noise sources is analyzed: (i) an external multiplicative time correlated noise, which mimics the interaction between the system and the environment; (ii) a dichotomous stochastic process, whose jump rate is a periodic function, which represents the interaction parameter between the species. The moment equations for the species densities are derived in Gaussian approximation, using a mean field approach. Within this formalism we study the effect of the external time correlated noise on the ecosystem dynamics. We find that the time behavior of the $1^{st}$ order moments are independent on th…
