Psychometric properties of observational tools for identifying motor difficulties - a systematic review.

2018

Background Early identification of children with motor difficulties, such as developmental coordination disorder (DCD), is essential. At present only a fraction of children with DCD are identified. The purpose of the study was to systematically review the literature from 1994 to 2017 on observational screening tools and to evaluate the validity, reliability and usability of the questionnaires used. Methods The review of the literature was conducted to synthesize the data from five electronic databases for children aged 6–12 years. The following databases were searched: Academic search Elite (EBSCO), ERIC (ProQuest), MEDLINE (Ovid), PsycINFO (ProQuest), and SPORTDiscus with Full Text (EBSCO)…

Cinema Letters: Queer Typography to Training Teachers in Diversity and Visual Culture

2020

This paper presents a series of proposals to innovate in the field of teacher training from a critical perspective. We use art and design education incorporating creative aspects that range from the textual discourses of visual culture (cinema) and typography to issues of sexual diversity and queer dissidences. We promote creative experiences by introducing as a reference the study of typographies designed for films that raise LGBT issues. We review the typographical tradition of design elements related to the cinema, such as posters or main titles. We approach different questions from a multidisciplinary perspective, always thinking about teacher training and also about the educational pot…

A genetic algorithm for scratch removal in static images

2002

This paper investigates the removal of line scratches from old moving pictures and gives a twofold contribution. First, it presents a simple technique for detecting the scratches, based on an analysis of the statistics of the grey levels. Second, the scratch removal is approached as an optimisation problem, which is solved by using a genetic algorithm. The method can be classified as a static approach, as it works independently on each single frame of the sequence. It does not require any a-priori knowledge of the absolute position of the scratch, nor an external starting population of chromosomes for the genetic algorithm. The central column of the line scratch once detected is changed wit…

ELECTRE TRI-based approach for sorting projects portfolio: Focus on the European strategy

2018

The European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation aims to facilitate the collaboration between public and private sectors in delivering innovation. To achieve this goal, Union Research and Innovation Programme provides various financial instruments, among which the Horizon 2020 is one of the most significant. Since its implementation, the Horizon 2020 has stimulated the interest of several research organizations making the partnerships among companies their core business for improving local economy. In this context, technological districts are the main proponents of research and innovation spreading in the local territory. In Sicily, the AgroBioPesca district exploited these oppo…

Multiple-attribute decision support system based on fuzzy logic for performance assessment

2005

Abstract This paper deals with the problem of assessing the performance of a set of production units, simultaneously considering different kinds of information, yielded by a Data Envelopment Analysis, a qualitative data analysis and an expert assessment. The tool for integrating heterogeneous data is a model that applies fuzzy logic to decision support systems. The results obtained are a holistic performance assessment of each unit of the set and a ranking order of the units.

Practices of development assistance and climate change mitigation in reshaping the Mozambican REDD+ strategy

2020

ABSTRACTThis paper studies how the practices of climate change governance and development assistance have reshaped the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) process in Mozambique. We look at how the original goals of the Mozambican REDD+ strategy changed in the interplay of different governance-related practices, both those originating locally and nationally, and those coming from international organisations. The paper is based on the frameworks of multilevel governance and practice theory. We identify six combinations of practices that are relevant in the REDD+ programmes and projects. Three of them are incorporated in the general idea of sustainability, inclu…

Science and Research

2018

Astrobiology is one of the new multidisciplinary research fields of the 21st Century requiring collaborations across the physical sciences—astronomers, chemists, geologists, physicists—as well as people from the biosciences and, as discussed in this chapter, the humanities and social sciences. Astrobiology has a along and distinguished history in Europe though only in last decade has it develop its identity as a robust and independent field, one that will be further developed by new structures, such as the European Astrobiology Institute. This chapter looks at how astrobiology will develop in Europe and provide new career paths for next generation of researchers.

Multidomain Symmetric Galerkin BEM for non-linear analysis of masonries in-plane loaded

2014

The preservation of the historical and monumental buildings, but also of the considerable heritage of old constructions made by traditional techniques, is one of the actual problems of the structural mechanics. The level of knowledge of their structural behavior in presence of external actions is made through calculus methods and simple procedures in order to allow a reading of the material suffering degree and as a consequence of the related safety. In this paper an elastic analysis of walls, also in presence of geometrical nonlinearity consisting in the contact/detachment phenomenon among stone blocks. The wall having any shape and zone-wise variable physical characteristics is loaded in …

The competency-based approach in developing countries : effects of curricular reforms in Sub-Saharan Africa

2013

For decades, all analyzes converge on the idea of the relative inefficiency of education systems in sub-Saharan Africa. Dropout, repetition, overstaffing, low quality of learning student failure and obsolescence of facilities, teaching materials and teachers, including sometimes the levels and quality of education remain somewhat uncertain, inadequate educational programs. In short, these are some of the ills that plague these systems and confirm the findings made by many reports. Given this weakness finding, educational authorities, supported by international aid mobilized in many countries to improve their systems to qualitatively, but also quantitatively equity because we must not forget…

A multivariate approach to the study of orichalcum ingots from the underwater Gela's archaeological site

2017

Abstract In this work a careful ICP-OES and ICP-MS investigation of 38 ancient ingots has been performed to determine both major components and trace elements content to find a correlation between the observed different features and the composition. The ingots, recovered in an underwater archaeological site of various finds near Gela (CL, Italy), were previously investigated by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy to know the composition of the alloy and it was found that the major elements were copper and zinc, in a ratio compatible with the famous orichalcum similar to the contemporary brass that was considered a precious metal in ancient times. The discovery of huge amount this alloy is…
