Neutrino-nucleon scattering rate in proto-neutron star matter
2002
We present a calculation of the neutrino-nucleon scattering cross-section which takes into account the nuclear correlations in the relativistic random phase approximation (RPA). Our approach is based on a quantum-hadrodynamics model with exchange of sigma, omega, pi, rho and delta mesons. In view of applications to neutrino transport in the final stages of supornova explosion and proto-neutron star cooling, we study the evolution of the neutrino mean free path as a function of density, proton-noutron asymmetry and temperature. Special attention was paid to the issues of renormalization of the Dirac sea, residual interactions in the tensor channel, coupling to the delta-meson and meson mixin…
Inclusive and exclusive neutrino-nucleus cross sections and the reconstruction of the interaction kinematics
2021
Abstract We present a full kinematic analysis of neutrino-nucleus charged current quasielastic interactions based on the Local Fermi Gas model and the Random Phase Approximation. The model was implemented in the NEUT Monte Carlo framework, which allows us to investigate potentially measurable observables, including hadron distributions. We compare the predictions simultaneously to the most recent T2K and MINERvA charged current (CC) inclusive, CC0π and transverse kinematic-imbalance variable results. We pursuit a microscopic interpretation of the relevant reaction mechanisms, with the aim to achieving in neutrino oscillation experiments a correct reconstruction of the incoming neutrino kine…
Nuclear cross sections in 16O for β beam neutrinos at intermediate energies
2006
The nuclear cross sections for charged lepton production induced by $\beta$ beam neutrinos (anti-neutrinos) in $^{16}$O have been presented at intermediate energies corresponding to the Lorentz boost factor $\gamma<250 (150)$. The calculations for quasi-elastic lepton production includes the effect of Pauli blocking, Fermi motion and renormalization of weak transition strengths in the nuclear medium. The calculations for the inelastic lepton production is done in the $\Delta$ dominance model. The renormalization of $\Delta$ properties in a nuclear medium and final state interactions of pions with the final nucleus are taken into account. The results may be useful in performing feasibility s…
Comparing non-perturbative models of the breakup of neutron-halo nuclei
2012
Breakup reactions of loosely-bound nuclei are often used to extract structure and/or astrophysical information. Here we compare three non-perturbative reaction theories often used when analyzing breakup experiments, namely the continuum discretized coupled channel model, the time-dependent approach relying on a semiclassical approximation, and the dynamical eikonal approximation. Our test case consists of the breakup of 15C on Pb at 68 MeV/nucleon and 20 MeV/nucleon.
Neutrino Nucleus Cross-Sections
2009
We present the results of our calculation which has been performed to study the nuclear effects in the quasielastic, inelastic and deep inelastic scattering of neutrinos(antineutrinos) from nuclear targets. These calculations are done in the local density approximation. We take into account the effect of Pauli blocking, Fermi motion, Coulomb effect, renormalization of weak transition strengths in the nuclear medium in the case of the quasielastic reaction. The inelastic reaction leading to production of pions is calculated in a Δ-dominance model taking into account the renormalization of Δ properties in the nuclear medium and the final state interaction effects of the outgoing pions with t…
New supersymmetric quartet of nuclei in the A ∼ 190 mass region
2009
We present evidence for a new supersymmetric quartet in the A=190 region of the nuclear mass table. New experimental information on transfer and neutron capture reactions to the odd-odd nucleaus 194 Ir strongly suggests the existence of a new supersymmetric quartet, consisting of the 192,193 Os and 193,194 Ir nuclei. We make explicit predictions for the odd-neutron nucleus 193 Os, and suggest that its spectroscopic properties be measured in dedicated experiments.
Nucleon strangeness and unitarity
1996
The strange-quark vector current form factors of the nucleon are analyzed within the framework of dispersion relations. Particular attention is paid to contributions made by $K\bar{K}$ intermediate states to the form factor spectral functions. It is shown that, when the $K\bar{K}\to N\bar{N}$ amplitude is evaluated in the Born approximation, the $K\bar{K}$ contributions are identical to those arising from a one-loop calculation and entail a serious violation of unitarity. The mean square strangeness radius and magnetic moment are evaluated by imposing unitarity bounds on the kaon-nucleon partial wave amplitudes. The impact of including the kaon's form factor in the dispersion integrals is a…
Study of several double-beta-decaying nuclei using the renormalized proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation
1997
The renormalized proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation model (RQRPA) has been used to calculate double-\ensuremath{\beta}-decay matrix elements and associated transition half-lives for two-neutrino double \ensuremath{\beta} decay of parent nuclei ${}^{76}\mathrm{Ge},$ ${}^{78}\mathrm{Kr},$ ${}^{82}\mathrm{Se},$ ${}^{96}\mathrm{Zr},$ ${}^{106}\mathrm{Cd},$ and ${}^{130}\mathrm{Te}$ to the ground state and excited one- and two-phonon states of their daughter nuclei. The results are compared to ordinary proton-neutron QRPA and experiments. In addition, the violation of the Ikeda sum rule in the RQRPA is examined and discussed.
Bounds on the Solar Antineutrino total Flux and Energy spectrum from the SK experiment
1999
A search for inverse beta decay electron antineutrinos has been carried out using the 825 days sample of solar data obtained at SK. The absence of a significant signal, that is, contributions to the total SK background and their angular variations has set upper bounds on a) the absolute flux of solar antineutrinos originated from ${}^8 B$ neutrinos $_{\bar}({}^8 B)=< 1.8\times 10^5 cm^{-2} s^{-1}$ which is equivalent to an averaged conversion probability bound of P<3.5% (SSM-BP98 model) and b) their differential energy spectrum, the conversion probability is smaller than 8% for all $E_{e,vis}>6.5$ MeV going down the 5% level above $E_{e,vis}\approx 10$ MeV. It is shown that an …
SN 1987A and the status of oscillations solutions to the solar neutrino problem
2002
We study neutrino oscillations and the level-crossing probability ${P}_{\mathrm{LSZ}}$ in power-law potential profiles $A(r)\ensuremath{\propto}{r}^{n}.$ We give local and global adiabaticity conditions valid for all mixing angles $\ensuremath{\vartheta}$ and discuss different representations for ${P}_{\mathrm{LSZ}}.$ For the ${1/r}^{3}$ profile typical of supernova envelopes we compare our analytical to numerical results and to earlier approximations used in the literature. We then perform a combined likelihood analysis of the observed SN 1987A neutrino signal and of the latest solar neutrino data, including the recent SNO CC measurement. We find that, unless all relevant supernova paramet…
