Investigations on day-night differences of vesicle densities in synapses of the rat suprachiasmatic nucleus

1990

The present study was conducted to test whether the well-known circadian alterations in physiological and metabolical parameters of the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) are accompanied by day-night differences in the number of vesicles in intrinsic synapses of the nucleus. Two groups of 5 adult male rats each were killed at mid-light or mid-dark, respectively, by perfusion with Karnovsky's fluid. The SCN were removed and processed for routine electron microscopy. In medial parts of the nucleus, synapses were characterized as being of Gray type I (asymmetrical), Gray type II (symmetrical) or of intermediate form, and the vesicles per synaptic profile (VPSP) were counted over a defi…

Associations of physical activity, sedentary time, and cardiorespiratory fitness with heart rate variability in 6- to 9-year-old children: the PANIC …

2019

Purpose. To study the associations of physical activity (PA), sedentary time (ST), and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) with heart rate variability (HRV) in children. Methods. The participants were a population sample of 377 children aged 6–9 years (49% boys). ST, light PA (LPA), moderate PA (MPA), vigorous PA (VPA), and moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA), and PA energy expenditure (PAEE) were assessed using a combined heart rate and movement sensor, maximal power output per kilograms of lean body mass as a measure of CRF by maximal cycle ergometer exercise test, and HRV variables (SDNN, RMSSD, LF, and HF) using 5 min resting electrocardiography. Data were analysed by linear regression adjusted …

Device-based physical activity levels among Finnish adolescents with functional limitations.

2019

Abstract Background Monitoring physical activity among young adolescents with disabilities is a top academic priority. People with disabilities are a diverse group with various abilities in different human functioning. Therefore, we used a novel approach through functional limitations as a marker for disabilities and examined physical activity levels. Objective To investigate the levels and differences in light (LPA) and moderate-to-vigorous (MVPA) intensity physical activity between young adolescents with and without functional limitations. Methods The study included young adolescents (n = 1436) aged 11–15 years olds who attended general schools that were part of the 2016 Finnish School-ag…

Environmental Correlates of Motor Competence in Children -The Skilled Kids Study

2019

Environment, physical activity (PA) and motor development are tightly interwoven during childhood. We examined the associations of environmental factors with motor competence (MC) in children. Children (N = 945, 50.1% boys, age = 3–7 years, mean = 5.4 years) from 37 childcare centres in the Southern (n = 17), Central (n = 13) and Northern Finland (n = 7) participated. The environmental factors comprised the geographical location (Southern, Central and Northern Finland) and residential density (metropolitan area, city, rural area and countryside) of the childcare centres’ based on postal codes and the national population density registry. MC was measured using the Test of Gross Motor Develop…

“It Is Like Compulsory to Go, but It Is still pretty Nice”: Young Children’s Views on Physical Activity Parenting and the Associated Motivational Reg…

2020

Physical activity parenting (PAP) is consistently correlated with children’s physical activity (PA). Children’s perception of PAP has garnered little attention given that it mediates the relationship between PAP and child PA outcomes. This study aimed to examine 7–10-year-old children’s perspectives on PAP practices and how they relate to their motivational regulation of PA. A total of 79 children 7–10 years of age participated in 19 semi-structured focus group interviews. Through qualitative theory-guided content analysis, using frameworks of parenting dimensions and self-determination theory (SDT), we found that children’s perceptions of high responsiveness and low demandingness in PAP—ac…

Expression of Cx36 in mammalian neurons

2000

Cx36 is the first mammalian member of a novel subgroup of the connexin family, characterized by a long cytoplasmic loop, a peculiar gene structure and a preferential expression in cell types of neural origin. In the present review we summarize the evidence in favour of its predominant expression in neuronal cells in the mammalian central nervous system, such as results from experiments with specific neurotoxins and co-localization of Cx36 mRNA and a neuronal marker. We also report a detailed description of Cx36 mRNA distribution in the rat and human central nervous system by in situ hybridization and, for each brain region, we correlate the novel findings with previous morphological or func…

Probable collapse mechanisms in indefinite plates on an elastoplastic continuum

1972

With reference to a theory expounded in a previous note [2] on the limit state behaviour of plates resting on an elastoplastic continuum subject to distributed loads, probable collapse mechanisms are considered in order to supplying more tractable solutions for technical practice. As the case is a general one, it is shown that the results obtained are suitable for following the load carrying capacity of plates and the relative collapse mechanism as the limit resistance of the soil and the spread of the load acting on it vary.

Viihtymistä, kontakteja ja hyötyä : sähköiset mediat kuudesluokkalaisen silmin

2009
