Gender medicine and oncology: report and consensus of an ESMO workshop.

Background: The importance of sex and gender as modulators of disease biology and treatment outcomes is well known in other disciplines of medicine, such as cardiology, but remains an undervalued issue in oncology. Considering the increasing evidence for their relevance, European Society for Medical Oncology decided to address this topic and organized a multidisciplinary workshop in Lausanne, Switzerland, on 30 November and 1 December 2018.

Barber-Say syndrome (BSS) and ablepharon-macrostomia syndrome (AMS) are infrequently reported congenital malformation disorders caused by mutations in the <i>TWIST2</i> gene. Subacute effects of ozone exposure on cultivated human respiratory mucosa.

This study was designed to investigate subacute effects of long-term exposure of both healthy and chronically inflamed human respiratory mucosa to ozone. Functional and metabolic effects on ciliary beat frequency (CBF), release of interleukin 8 (IL-8), interleukin 4 (IL-4), and γ interferon (g-INF), as well as cellular viability and cytotoxicity, were monitored. This study aims to examine whether Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) related preoccupations might consist of unwanted intrusive cognitions, and if so, their degree of universality, its dimensionality from normality to BDD psychopathology, and their associations with symptom measures. Methods Monitoring of otitis cases diagnosed at our centre over the last 21 months (n = 1026), taking into account those who returned for a second visit, either via the emergency room or with a prior appointment. Prolidase deficiency in two dermatological patients in western Sicily

Prolidase deficiency is a rare disorder inherited through an autosomal recessive gene. The hallmark of the disorder are iminodipeptiduria, chronic skin ulcers, recurring infections, mental retardation and characteristic facial appearance, although prolidase deficiency can occur with no clinical manifestation. The primary biological function of the enzyme involves the metabolism of collagen degradation products and the recycling of proline for collagen resynthesis. We describe two patients with prolidase deficiency and review the different clinical manifestations suggesting the pathogenetic mechanism through few hypotheses.
