Virtual tour through the towers of the defensive system in the province of Salerno
2019
The coastal towers of the defensive system in the province of Salerno are architectures developed over time; they are buildings belonging to an extended strategic plan of the coastal territory useful to defend populations and cities from the ancient enemy attacks. Hence, their location comes from careful studies in which the orographic characteristics of the place and the visual connection between a tower and another played a fundamental role. The aim of this work is to focus the attention on the visual communication between the towers, or on the “dialogue” that the different artefacts entertain each other. In order to pursue this objective, a virtual tour that connects the different ancient…
Digital Vitruvius, or an elogy of the equilateral triangle
2012
On interpretation of an architectural project, triangle’s form generally refers both to plans of organic architecture and to fronts of Romanesque and Gothic churches. This wonderful form, that contains God’s eye, is, according to Vitruvius, the geometric generative principle of the Roman Theatre. Everybody knows that De Architectura arrived to us without images; in the past there were innumerable interpretations, from editio princeps (1486). A digital transcriptions, that follows side by side a Vitruvius’ book’s translation, highlights the compositional process that defines that the equilateral triangle is the geometric element that give origin to the composition of theatre.
Una rappresentazione dell'architettura stratificata
2009

Restoration of the Northeast cloister of the Convento de la Compañía de Jesús in Antigua, Guatemala
1998
[EN] The extraordinary history of the foundation, destruction and survival of La Antigua in Guatemala, a city frozen in time over two centuries ago, is the background for the introduction of the history of the Convento de la CompañÌa de Jesús and its northeast cloister, which has recently been restored and whose surrounding buildings have been refurbished to house the headquarters of the Institute of Ibero-American Cooperation in the city.
La chiesa di Nostra Signora di Lourdes a Zagabria di Jože Plečnik. Analisi grafica
2019
Jože Plečnik (Ljubljana, 23rd January 1872 - Ljubljana, 7th January 1957) was, without any doubt, Otto Wagner's most brilliant pupil. During his tireless activity as an architect, he manages to touch a variety of absolutely heterogeneous themes, masterfully reworking the consolidated syntax of traditional architecture. In this survey we consider a relevant – although little investigated – aspect of the architect's work, that is the one linked to the typological innovations brought about by his work. In the case under examination – the work never done by the church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Zagreb – this innovation consists of the unusual arrangement of the four rows of columns that separate…
Lapis Resiliency, through Analogic and Digital Drawing
2022
In recent years, life drawings as a tool for site survey had slip into the oblivion of time. Its use is considered anachronistic and superfluous in what is defined as the 'digital age'. Nevertheless, thanks to architecture students, who measure themselves with this type of competence, freehand drawing survives revealing its role in understanding the existing reality. Furthermore, the pandemic emergency has provided the opportunity to reflect on the subject, highlighting the importance of urban sketching as a tool to understand and comprehend the building environment. However, the need to adapt to remote activities has inevitably led to the development of new and interesting methodologies by…
Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda: design drawings compared
2012
Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda is among the most important designers, architects, engineers and designers at the end of '800. He has participated in numerous architectural competitions, both at Palermo in Sicily and again in Italy. He has conducted numerous studies on the identification of significant types of construction from coffee house to the shrines cemeteries, the decorative detail to the urban study on a large scale. Of course He is remembered in our city, especially as the designer of the Politeama, an imposing structure that dominates the central square of Palermo. Very old city, whose roots, evidenced by the presence dating back to the Punic, have never found a break until the present …
RICOSTRUIRE - 4/5 : Architettura, Storia, Rappresentazione
2022
2012
We present the enlargement plan of an isolated cemetery in a small town of the west Sicily as it exemplifies some way to carry out the design for an “addition”. The enlargement faces a still readable and characteristic nineteenth-century building. Even introducing unavoidable innovative characteristics, the architecture we designed tries to resolve the difficult relationship between the new portion and the old cemetery, bell shaped, in steep slope above the town. The recovery of this place for collective memory, once realized as a closed enclosure, is realized by the mediation of a space which seeks to maintain, recover and reinforce the identity of places altered in the last years by uncon…
Graphic analysis of geometric tiles patterns. The complex of Shaykh ‘Abd Al-Samad At Natanz
2020
The complex of ‘Abd al-Samid at Natanz, (end of the first decade of the 14th century) includes several buildings: a four-iwan mosque, an octagonal sanctuary, a minaret, and a mosque from the 1930s fronted by a fourteenth-century portal (pīshṭāq). The portal, the only remains of a khanqah, occupies the western end of the southern façade. It takes the form of an iwan, covered in a rich variety of patterns of colourful glazed tile and unglazed carved terracotta. It is adorned by a majestic muqarnas vault of six rows ending at the top with a starry motif. Each element that constitutes the muqarnas is also covered with tiles of different patterns that alternate, both in the main and in the conne…
