Inverted molecular cups: 1-D and 2-D Ag(I) coordination polymers from resorcinarene bis-thiacrowns
2016
Resorcinarene bis-thiacrown hosts 1–3 were prepared and crystallized with silver trifluoroacetate yielding one and two dimensional Ag coordination polymers. The complexation of silver in exo-cavity fashion folds the thiacrown bridges inwards transforming the resorcinarene hosts into inverted molecular cups. The silver cations were coordinated to the resorcinarene ligands and trifluoroacetate anions, which act as monodentate or bidendate bridging ligands between the metal ions. Argentophilic Ag···Ag (2.93–3.38 Å) interactions supported by two bridging carboxylate anions were found in two of the structures, whereas longer Ag···Ag distances were observed if only one anion connected the silver …
Shared Situational Awareness in a Professional Soccer Team: An Explorative Analysis of Post-Performance Interviews
2020
Sport science research has done little to elaborate on the cognitive factors that turn a collection of individual players into a coordinated elite team. The purpose of this paper is to clarify if the players and coach of an elite soccer team express shared situational awareness. Ten players and one coach were exposed to twelve video pictures from a previous soccer match, and their statements for each picture were recorded and analyzed using a qualitative approach. Two of five game situations were with ball possession and three out of seven were without ball possession
Rethinking language teaching and training procedures between online and of ine communication
2012
The paper analyses the Italian National Plan for Training the English Teachers at Primary Schools. This Plan was promoted by the Italian Ministry of Education to cope with the last and most recent educational reform that introduced English as a school subject into the curriculum at primary schools. A panel of experts worked to a national training plan for English primary teachers which will soon be tested. In this paper we will deal with three main topics: 1) the teachers’ awareness of their blended professional training, 2) the theoretical foundations underpinning this new educational challenge, 3) the new teaching models involving integrated technology that the Plan for Training the Engli…
Understanding the role of cross-language transfer of phonological awareness in emergent Hindi–English biliteracy acquisition
2022
AbstractThis study examined within and cross-language relations, and specifically, the role of phonological awareness (PA) skills in reading among young Hindi-speaking children (L1) who were learning to read English (L2) in Delhi, India. Data was collected from 143 children in Grades 1 and 2 using measures validated for this population. The analyses examined the associations between L1 and L2 PA and decoding, both within and across the two languages. The results showed that PA skills within each language significantly predicted decoding in that language. Furthermore, there was evidence of cross-language transfer with Hindi PA significantly predicting English word reading even after controll…
Host-guest complexes of C-propyl-2-bromoresorcinarene with aromatic N-oxides*
2018
The host-guest complexes of C-propyl-2-bromoresorcinarene with pyridine N-oxide, 3-methylpyridine N-oxide, quinoline N-oxide and isoquinoline N-oxide are studied using single crystal X-ray crystallography and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The C-propyl-2-bromoresorcinarene forms endo-complexes with the aromatic N-oxides in the solid-state when crystallised from either methanol or acetone. In solution, the endo-complexes were observed only in methanol-d4. In DMSO the solvent itself is a good guest, and crystallisation provides only solvate endo-complexes. The C-propyl-2-bromoresorcinarene shows remarkable flexibility when crystallised from either methanol or acetone, and packs into one-dimensional sel…

Psychological and behavioural factors of unintentional doping: A preliminary systematic review
2018
In some cases, doping in sport is an intentional goal-directed behaviour, but research suggests that it might also occur accidentally when athletes inadvertently or unintentionally consume banned performance-enhancing drugs via food, supplements, or medication. Because research into the psychological factors of unintentional doping is still emerging, this paper aims to conduct a preliminary systematic review of all the existing literature concerning the psychology of unintentional doping in sport. The systematic review was carried out via an extensive search of Medline, PsycINFO, PsycTESTS, PsycARTICLES, and Web of Science, and reports from World Anti-Doping Agency. Among the 2110 articles …

Context-sensitive distraction warnings : effects on drivers' visual behavior and acceptance
2016
In this study, we investigated the effects of context-sensitive distraction warnings on drivers' in-car glance behaviors and acceptance. The studied prototype warning application functions on a smart phone. The novelty of the application is its proactive and context-sensitive approach to the adjustment of warning thresholds according to the estimated visual demands of the driving situation ahead. In our study, novice and experienced drivers conducted in-car tasks with a smart phone on a test track with and without the warnings. The application gave a warning if the driver's gaze was recognized to remain on the smart phone over a situation-specific threshold time, or if the driver was approa…
Visual Distraction Effects between In-Vehicle Tasks with a Smartphone and a Motorcycle Helmet-Mounted Head-Up Display
2018
Besides motorists, also motorcyclists need safer user interfaces to interact with useful applications on the road. In this paper, distraction effects of in-vehicle tasks conducted with a head-up display (HUD) for motorcyclists were compared to smartphone tasks with 24 participants in a driving simulator. Compared to the smartphone tasks, the head-up display tasks decreased the percentage of inappropriately long glances by 45 percent. The head-up display tasks were also experienced as less demanding than the smartphone tasks. Additionally, the use of head-up display for navigation did not lead to gaze concentration effects compared to baseline driving. The head-up display is concluded to be …
