Pusaudžu izvairīgas/ierobežojošas pārtikas uzņemšanas traucējuma iezīmju, sensorā jutīguma un internalizētu uzvedības problēmu sakarības
2022
Darba mērķis ir izpētīt ARFID iezīmju, sensorā jutīguma un internalizēto uzvedības problēmu sakarības pusaudžiem. Pētījumā piedalījās 271 pusaudzis 14 – 18 gadu vecumā. Pētījumā tika izmantotas trīs aptaujas – Deviņu jautājumu ARFID aptauja, Īpaši jutīga bērna aptauja, Ahenbaha jaunieša uzvedības pašnovērtēšanas aptaujas internalizēto uzvedības problēmu skalas. Rezultāti parādīja, ka pastāv statistiski nozīmīgas pozitīvas saistības starp pusaudžu ARFID iezīmēm, sensoro jutīgumu un internalizētām uzvedības problēmām. Meitenēm tika novērotas izteiktākas ARFID iezīmes, sensorais jutīgums un internalizētas uzvedības problēmas nekā zēniem. Internalizētas uzvedības problēmu kopējie rādītāji progn…
Progenitor death drives retinal dysplasia and neuronal degeneration in a mouse model of Atrip-Seckel syndrome
2020
ABSTRACT Seckel syndrome is a type of microcephalic primordial dwarfism (MPD) that is characterized by growth retardation and neurodevelopmental defects, including reports of retinopathy. Mutations in key mediators of the replication stress response, the mutually dependent partners ATR and ATRIP, are among the known causes of Seckel syndrome. However, it remains unclear how their deficiency disrupts the development and function of the central nervous system (CNS). Here, we investigated the cellular and molecular consequences of ATRIP deficiency in different cell populations of the developing murine neural retina. We discovered that conditional inactivation of Atrip in photoreceptor neurons …
Bright spots in the darkness of cancer: A review of starfishes-derived compounds and their anti-tumor action
2019
The fight against cancer represents a great challenge for researchers and, for this reason, the search for new promising drugs to improve cancer treatments has become inevitable. Oceans, due to their wide diversity of marine species and environmental conditions have proven to be precious sources of potential natural drugs with active properties. As an example, in this context several studies performed on sponges, tunicates, mollusks, and soft corals have brought evidence of the interesting biological activities of the molecules derived from these species. Also, echinoderms constitute an important phylum, whose members produce a huge number of compounds with diverse biological activities. In…
The VST Photometric Hα Survey of the Southern Galactic Plane and Bulge (VPHAS+)
2014
The VST Photometric Halpha Survey of the Southern Galactic Plane and Bulge (VPHAS+) is surveying the southern Milky Way in u, g, r, i and Halpha at 1 arcsec angular resolution. Its footprint spans the Galactic latitude range -5 < b < +5 at all longitudes south of the celestial equator. Extensions around the Galactic Centre to Galactic latitudes +/-10 bring in much of the Galactic Bulge. This ESO public survey, begun on 28th December 2011, reaches down to 20th magnitude (10-sigma) and will provide single-epoch digital optical photometry for around 300 million stars. The observing strategy and data pipelining is described, and an appraisal of the segmented narrowband Halpha filter in us…
Autosomal recessive severe dwarfism in a Sicilian girl: a new form of osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism?
1996
A new type of osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism is delineated in a 5- year-old female child with severe growth retardation of prenatal onset, gross skeletal changes, a non-Seckel facial phenotype, and presumed autosomal recessive inheritance.
Prediction of quinolone activity against Mycobacterium avium by molecular topology and virtual computational screening.
2000
ABSTRACT We conducted a quantitative structure-activity relationship study using a database of 158 quinolones previously tested against Mycobacterium avium-M. intracellulare complex in order to develop a model capable of predicting the activity of new quinolones against the M. avium-M. intracellulare complex in vitro. Topological indices were used as structural descriptors and were related to anti- M. avium-M. intracellulare complex activity by using the linear discriminant analysis (LDA) statistical technique. The discriminant equation thus obtained correctly classified 137 of the 158 quinolones, including 37 of a test group of 44 randomly chosen compounds. This model was then applied to 2…
Potential drug-drug interaction between duloxetine and acenocoumarol in a patient with Alzheimer's disease
2007
Abstract Background : Recent evidence suggests that duloxetine may increase the effect of warfarin, thereby increasing the possibility of bleeding. However, a MEDLINE search for articles published between 1980 and May 2007 (terms: duloxetine , anticoagulants , acenocoumarol , and interaction ; no language restriction) did not yield any reports of an interaction between concomitant use of duloxetine and acenocoumarol. Objective : The aim of this study was to describe a potential drug-drug interaction between duloxetine and acenocoumarol in a patient with Alzheimer's disease. The possible mechanism of this potential interaction is examined. Case summary : This report presents the case of a 63…
Telemedicine-Based Specialized Care Improves the Outcome of Anticoagulated Individuals with Venous Thromboembolism-Results from the thrombEVAL Study.
2020
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a life-threatening disease with risk of recurrence. Oral anticoagulation (OAC) with vitamin K antagonists (VKA) is effective to prevent thromboembolic recurrence. We aimed to investigate the quality of OAC of VTE patients in regular medical care (RMC) compared to a telemedicine-based coagulation service (CS). The thrombEVAL study (NCT01809015) is a prospective, multi-center study to investigate OAC treatment (recruitment: January 2011&ndash
Clinical Cases on Colorectal Cancer Emergency
2019
You have to manage in the emergency room a 75-year-old man with a medical history of pulmonary embolism 4 months ago and currently treated with warfarin. He has no history of abdominal surgery. He consults for diffuse abdominal pain, cessation of flatus and stools for 4 days, and fever of 38.7 °C and chills for 24 h. He vomited once 24 h ago. He also experienced asthenia and recent weight loss of 7 kg over the past 6 months not attributable to diet or exercise. He complains of progressively aggravating alternation of diarrhea and constipation for 3 months. He finally remembers that he noticed several times in the last months the presence of red blood in the stools, about which he did not wo…
