First results on ProtoDUNE-SP liquid argon time projection chamber performance from a beam test at the CERN Neutrino Platform

Tomographic diagnostics of high-frequency electrodeless lamps in argon–mercury mixtures

Tomographic reconstruction of spatial profiles of the mercury atom density in the excited state 7 3S1 in high-frequency electrodeless lamps (HFELs) has been performed. The measurements of the Hg 546.1 nm line emission intensity have been made for the HFELs in argon–mercury mixture depending on the operation regime with different cold spot temperatures in the range 31–98 °C. The maximum entropy-based algorithm was applied for the reconstruction of local emission coefficients from the integrated intensities. Protease-mediated processing of Argonaute proteins controls small RNA association

SummarySmall RNA pathways defend the germlines of animals against selfish genetic elements and help to maintain genomic integrity. At the same time, their activity needs to be well-controlled to prevent silencing of ‘self’ genes. Here, we reveal a proteolytic mechanism that controls endogenous small interfering (22G) RNA activity in the Caenorhabditis elegans germline to protect genome integrity and maintain fertility. We find that WAGO-1 and WAGO-3 Argonaute (Ago) proteins are matured through proteolytic processing of their unusually proline-rich N-termini. Abstract PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) and their partnering PIWI proteins defend the animal germline against transposable elements and play a crucial role in fertility. Numerous studies in the past have uncovered many additional functions of the piRNA pathway, including gene regulation, anti-viral defense, and somatic transposon repression. Further, comparative analyses across phylogenetic groups showed that the PIWI/piRNA system evolves rapidly and exhibits great evolutionary plasticity. Status of new 18 GHz ECRIS HIISI

A new 18 GHz ECR ion source HIISI is under commissioning at the Accelerator Laboratory at the University of Jyvaskyla (JYFL). The main purpose of HIISI is to produce high-energy beam cocktails, e.g. Xe44+, for radiation effects testing of electronics with the K130 cyclotron. The initial commissioning results in 18+14 GHz operation with oxygen, argon and xenon are reported. The beam currents are compared to those produced by reference ion sources (JYFL 14 GHz ECRIS, GTS and SuSI). Modern welfare states have increasingly been infused by principles from New Public Management. The implicit managerialism and standardization of these principles reduces the autonomy of professionals and displaces their discretionary power, replacing it with a standardized professional language that reproduces and reinforces specific narratives of knowledge. Revised Analysis of the Structure of the v1 Band of Methane

Abstract The CARS spectrum of the v 1 band of 12 CH 4 at a pressure of 14 mbar was recorded using cw excitation in the cavity of a ring argon ion laser. The analysis of the intensity profile of the obarred spectrum led to the detection of inconsistencies with the hitherto proposed calculated positions of transitions with J = 7 to J = 10 and to a relocation of the corresponding lines.

This thesis is devoted to the study of relaxational and collisional line-broadening processes in the first vibrational polyads of tetrahedral molecules. In a first part, the particular internal dynamics of such molecules is discussed. Tungsten oxide thin films sputter deposited by the reactive gas pulsing process for the dodecane detection

International audience; The DC reactive magnetron sputtering of a metallic tungsten target was performed in an argon + oxygen atmosphere for depositing tungsten oxide thin films. In order to control the oxygen concentration in the films, the reactive gas pulsing process, namely RGPP, was implemented. Rectangular pulses were used with a constant pulsing period T = 16 s whereas the duty cycle α (time of oxygen injection to pulsing period T ratio) was systematically changed from 0 to 100% of T.
