Ever since the beginning of international climate conservation politics there has been variation across nations in political traditions in debating the climate issue. Political decision-makers have interpreted the scientific findings on global warming with different emphases, thereby giving rise to variation in views on preferred national or international solutions. These tensions first became evident before and during the Earth Summit of the United Nations in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, when the United Nations Climate Change Convention was prepared and eventually signed. As this is the first study on the "discursive identity" of member of parliament Margarita Nelken and on the parliamentary discourse of the Second Republic, special attention will be devoted to persuasive strategies and the image construction of the socialist MP. This article consists of ex post methodological reflections on the procedures and practices that I applied in my monograph Politik als parlamentarischer Begriff: Perspektiven aus den Plenardebatten des Deutschen Bundestags (Leverkusen, 2021). The book analyses through 18 parliamentary terms the conceptualization of politics in German Bundestag plenary debates from 1949 to 2017. The book was an illustration of my long-term aim of combining political theorizing with the empirical analysis of debate. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan ilmastonmuutoksen turvallisuuspoliittisia merkityksiä Suomessa poliittisen kielenkäytön analyysimenetelmin. Turvallisuus- ja puolustuspolitiikassa uhkakuvat sekä niiden tärkeysjärjestys ja merkitys ovat poliittisen kamppailun kohteena. Käsitteellisellä tasolla esimerkiksi ilmastonmuutoksen turvallisuuspoliittinen merkitys määräytyy poliittisissa debateissa, joissa esitetään argumentteja politiikan linjanvedosta, ratkaisuista ja resursseista.
