Kaupunginvaltuutettujen argumentointi
2010
Tutkimuskysymyksiin…

Rethinking Politicisation
2019
Politicisation, in a broad and basic understanding, means to turn something – an issue, an institution, a policy – that previously was not a subject to political action into something that now is subject to political action. So far, most definitions of the concept would agree. But besides this basic approach, there is much discussion: Politicisation is a concept that is currently much used in the social sciences, and also a concept that is contested in its definitions and understandings. Several paths and subdisciplines contribute to the debate, but they are not necessarily connected to one another. Political theory or political economy discusses politicisation and also what can be termed t…
Oscillation of Second-Order Neutral Differential Equations
2013
Author's version of an article in the journal: Funkcialaj Ekvacioj. Also available from the publisher at: http://www.math.kobe-u.ac.jp/~fe/ We study oscillatory behavior of a class of second-order neutral differential equations relating oscillation of these equations to existence of positive solutions to associated first-order functional differential inequalities. Our assumptions allow applications to differential equations with both delayed and advanced arguments, and not only. New theorems complement and improve a number of results reported in the literature. Two illustrative examples are provided.
La forja de la posverdad en el discurso nacional-sindicalista: «Y» (1938-1945)
2018
In «Y» (1938-1945), the Women’s Section aims to contribute to the implementation of the values of Francoism, influencing the ideas and behaviour of Spanish women through the creation of a post-truth, which legitimizes and ensures the survival of power elites. In this paper, adopting the theoretical perspective of argumentative-persuasive discourse analysis, I will demonstrate how the national- syndicalist discourse creates its post-truth, through some “extra dictione” fallacies, based essentially on two macro-strategies: the negation of reality, and equally, the construction of a positive reality. En «Y» (1938-1945), la Sección femenina pretende coadyuvar la afirmación de los valores del fr…
Perspectives on language use and pragmatics. A volume in memory of Sorin Stati.
2010
This volume is written in memory of Sorin Stati. The authors of this volume mainly deal with perspectives on language use and pragmatics. Each of them has his/her own approach, so the volume should not be taken as representing a single school of thought. Of course, the ideas expressed in all of the articles are reminiscent of Wittgenstein's position which privileged meaning as use. We use language to do many things, to give and to obtain, to persuade and to order, to interact and create human bonds.Words and sentences acquire meaning in context, thus a decontextualized approach must be delegitimized. What the authors in this collection do is to place emphasis on the power of context and cot…
Humanity and Its Beneficiaries : Footing and Stance-Taking in an International Criminal Trial
2019
This article elucidates the role of metapragmatic devices like footing and stance-taking in trial hearings before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. It focuses on the case of Ahmad al Faqi al Mahdi, a Malian Islamist found guilty of the 2012 destruction of cultural heritage in Timbuktu. We examine how the prosecution and defense reflexively formulate the hearing as part of a wider text trajectory and how they align personae across participation frameworks by locating the current courtroom event into a wider dialogical field. A careful inspection of these metapragmatic devices reveals how trial participants navigate the multiple tensions facing this emergent, amalgamated fo…
Vers une modélisation rhétorique de la mauvaise foi?
2022
This paper offers a view of bad faith based on the study of several figures of speech: apodioxis, argument from authority, prolepsis, ratiocination, aposiopesis, comparison, etc. We try and establish formal criteria to distinguish bad faith, at the same time acknowledging that it also resorts to elements of textual continuity, cultural references and values and implications that are not necessarily manifest. Alongside well established figures of speech, we also describe more elaborate types of arguments such as narrative conglobation, lexical arsenal, identity argument, or psychological strategies like denial.
