Is the ad hominem argument a fallacy or not? In this paper I will try to demonstrate that an ad hominem is not intrinsically fallacious and that the speaker’s personal convictions, commitments and actions are deeply involved in every argument. This paper starts with a comparison between dialectical and rhetorical approaches to the argumentation, and, in particular, to the agreement. Briefly: from a dialectical standpoint, the argumentation is aimed at resolving a difference of opinion or a disagreement. This paper focuses on the study of the virtual identity of Internet users in discussion forums and, specifically, their discursive identity. After a brief introduction to the concept of virtual identity, I analyze the basic characteristics of such forums, conceived as a place of dialectic, polyphonic and multidiscoursive communication. In the second part, I examine locutors’ discursive behavior in ideological argumentative discourse. First, I look at the image that the Internet user offers through its argumentative posts and how it is perceived by the virtual community. In this paper, we bring together notions of inclusive quality education, pedagogy, learning and teachers, and illustrate how the principle(s) of inclusion(s) has been enacted and translated into classroom practices in Finnish context. Drawing from Finnish teachers’ narratives, we highlight successful, small-scale and creative pedagogical arrangements and teachers’ sensitivity to recognize and commit to responding to the needs of diverse learners.
