Las formas cotidianas de la felicidad y sus mandatos: Pedagogías del pensamiento positivo, trabajo docente y subjetividad en el neoliberalismo contem…
2020
Positive thinking constitutes one of the great traditions that lead to the idea of the subject as an entrepreneur of himself and is perhaps one of the best that has successfully condensed cultural, political, social and pedagogical processes linked to reflection on well-being in this historical time. The teaching work is especially moved by the pregnancy of these perspectives that challenge the pedagogical field and the education workers as ?agents of change, or at least one more school available to give the discussion on well-being and happiness (yours and the students?) is celebrated and encouraged. In this article, I intend to understand what is being built as pedagogical discourses abou…
Natural Ingredients of Transdermal Drug Delivery Systems as Permeation Enhancers of Active Substances through the Stratum Corneum
2023
In recent years, significant progress has been made in transdermal drug delivery systems, but there is still a search for enhancers that can improve the absorption of active substances through the stratum corneum. Although permeation enhancers have been described in the scientific literature, the use of naturally occurring substances in this role is still of particular interest, because they can offer a high level of safety of use, with a low risk of skin irritation, and high efficiency. In addition, these ingredients are biodegradable, easily available, and widely accepted by consumers due to the growing trust in natural compounds. This article provides information on the role of naturally…
Endocrine disrupters: the new players able to affect the epigenome
2015
Epigenetics represents the way by which the environment is able to program the genome; there are three main levels of epigenetic control on genome: DNA methylation, post-translational histone modification and microRNA expression. The term Epigenetics has been widened by NIH to include “both heritable changes in gene activity and expression but also stable, long-term alterations in the transcriptional potential of a cell that are not necessarily heritable.” These changes might be produced mostly by the early life environment and might affect health influencing the susceptibility to develop diseases, from cancer to mental disorder, during the entire life span. The most studied environmental i…
Complex formation of copper(II) and cadmium(II) with pectin and polygalacturonic acid in aqueous solution. An ISE-H + and ISE-Me 2+ electrochemical s…
2012
The acid-base properties of pectin and its ability to complex with copper(II) or cadmium(II) were quantitatively determined in order to define the ability of this natural polyelectrolyte to sequester metal ions. Potentiometric measurements carried out at different ionic strengths (0.1 - 0.7 mol L-1, in Na+ ionic medium) allowed us to define the acid-base properties of pectin together with the dependence of the protonation constants on ionic strength and to calculate the protonation constant at infinite dilution. The formation of complex species between pectin and copper(II) or cadmium(II) was investigated potentiometrically (using H+, Cu2+ and Cd2+ Ion Selective Electrodes, ISEs) in NaNO3 a…
Fresh-Cut Mangoes: How to Increase Shelf Life by Using Neem Oil Edible Coating
2022
The mango is the most widely cultivated tropical fruit. Fresh-cut mango is very useful, but it is very perishable. The purpose of this study was to highlight the effects of neem oil on fresh-cut mango fruits kept for 9 days at 4 ± 1 °C and 80 ± 5% relative humidity. The neem plant (Azadirachta indica) has numerous antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Despite this, very few studies have been carried out on neem oil added to edible coatings (EC) to retard ripening processes. Two formulations were tested: EC1 (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose + CaCl2) and EC2 (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose + CaCl2 + neem oil), both compared with an untreated sample (control). Physicochemica…
Adrb3 adrenergic receptor is a key regulator of human myometrial apoptosis and inflammation during chorioamnionitis1
2008
The pathophysiology underlying preterm labor triggered by inflammatory conditions such as chorioamnionitis remains largely unclear. It has already been suggested that beta-3 adrenergic (ADRB3) agonists might be of interest in the pharmacological management of preterm labor. Although there is evidence implicating ADRB receptors in the control of inflammation, there are minimal data relating specifically to ADRB3. To explore the cellular consequences of chorioamnionitis and detect apoptosis, we first performed immunostaining and Western blot experiments on human myometrial samples obtained from women with confirmed chorioamnionitis. We then developed an in vitro model of chorioamnionitis by i…
The effect of a temperature-sensitive prophage on the evolution of virulence in an opportunistic bacterial pathogen.
2022
https://doi.org/10.1111/mec.16638 Abstract Viruses are key actors of ecosystems and have major impacts on global biogeochemical cycles. Prophages deserve particular attention as they are ubiquitous in bacterial genomes and can enter a lytic cycle when triggered by environmental conditions. We explored how temperature affects the interactions between prophages and other biological levels by using an opportunistic pathogen, the bacterium Serratia marcescens, that harbours several prophages and that had undergone an evolution experiment under several temperature regimes. We found that the release of one of the prophages was temperature-sensitive and malleable to evolutionary changes. We furthe…

Fakultatīvo migrantu ziemošanas vietu pārmaiņas Latvijā gredzenotajiem putniem
2017
Šajā bakalaura darbā aplūkota piecu fakultatīvo migrantu putnu sugu – sarkanrīklītes Erithacus rubecula, dziedātājstrazda Turdus philomelos, pelēkā strazda Turdus pilaris, melnā meža strazda Turdus merula un lielās zīlītes Parus major – iespējamās ziemošanas vietu izmaiņas Latvijā gredzenotajiem putniem, periodā sākot no 1931. /1932. gada līdz 2014. /2015. gada ziemai. Tika izmantoti gredzenoto un pēc tam kontrolēto putnu dati no Latvijas Gredzenošanas centra arhīva.Veicot datu statistisko analīzi, konstatēts, ka nevienai no piecām apskatītajām sugām nav statistiski būtiski izmanījies migrācijas attālums. Divām sugām – dziedātājstrazdam Turdus philomelos (r2=0,012, p=0,429, n=64) u…
Pyrolytic behavior of lignocellulosic-based polysaccharides
2018
The thermochemical behavior of cellulose, glucomannan, and xylan was investigated by pyrolysis–gas chromatographymass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS). In each case, major GC-amenable condensable products were classified into several compound groups, and the formation of these monomer-related fragments from the model substance samples was determined at 500, 600, and 700 C with a residence time of 5 s and 20 s. The results revealed that despite some general formation trends, no compound group was selectively formed at certain temperatures. Of the 11 product groups, the primary ones, including lactone, furan, and cyclopentenone derivatives, accounted for 72–85% (from cellulose), 86–90% (from glucomann…
