[Post-translational regulation of N-glycosylated proteins expression in human intestinal cells in culture].

International audience; HT-29 cells derived from a human colonic adenocarcinoma, can express a typical intestinal differentiation. Undifferentiated HT-29 cells accumulate N-linked glycoproteins substituted with unprocessed carbohydrate chains before to degrade them. Conversely, carbohydrate chains of N-linked glycoproteins are classically processed in differentiated HT-29 cells. The instability of N-linked glycoproteins in undifferentiated HT-29 cells is due to their rapid delivery from the endoplasmic reticulum to a compartment with lysosomal characteristics. This catabolitic pathway involves a bypass of the Golgi apparatus.

L-asparaginase inhibits invasive and angiogenic activity and induces autophagy in ovarian cancer

Recent work identified L-asparaginase (L-ASP) as a putative therapeutic target for ovarian cancer. We suggest that L-ASP, a dysregulator of glycosylation, would interrupt the local microenvironment, affecting the ovarian cancer cell-endothelial cell interaction and thus angiogenesis without cytotoxic effects. The MC3 receptor binding affinity of melanocortins correlates with the nitric oxide production inhibition in mice brain inflammation model

Melanocortins possess strong anti-inflammatory effects acting in the central nervous system via inhibition of the production of nitric oxide (NO) during brain inflammation. Effects of overabundant nitrate and warmer temperatures on charophytes: The roles of plasticity and local adaptation

Global change effects, such as warming and increases in nitrogen loading, alter vulnerable Mediterranean aquatic systems, and charophytes can be one of the most affected groups. We addressed the possible interaction between these factors on two populations of the cosmopolitan charophytes Chara hispida and Chara vulgaris. Junceosides A-C, new triterpene saponins from Arenaria juncea.

Three novel triterpenoid saponins, junceosides A (1), B (2), and C (3), together with two known saponins have been isolated from the roots of Arenaria juncea. Their structures were elucidated using a combination of homo- and heteronuclear 2D NMR techniques (COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, and HMBC) and by FABMS. Investigation of water transfer across thin layer biopolymer films by infrared spectroscopy

International audience; The investigation of the apparent diffusivity of water in thin layer iota-carrageenan-based films by FTIR-ATR spectroscopy clearly evidences the fundamental role of surface properties on water transfer. Water diffusivity in iota-carrageenan based biopolymer films ranges from 0.3 to 1.3 × 10−10 m2 s−1 and is thus 10–100 times lower than that in highly hydrated carrageenan gels. Modulation of the growth and metabolic response of cyanobacteria by the multifaceted activity of naringenin

The interactions between the plant-derived bioflavonoid, naringenin, and prokaryotic microalgae representatives (cyanobacteria), were investigated with respect to its influence on the growth and metabolic response of these microorganisms. To achieve reliable results, the growth of cyanobacteria was determined based on measurements of chlorophyll content, morphological changes were assessed through microscopic observations, and the chemical response of cells was determined using liquid and gas chromatography (HPLC; GC-FID).
