Abstract Aristotle defines nemesis (to nemesan ¼ from the verb nemesao) as the emotional reaction of someone with a noble character at unmerited good fortune. L’articolo prende in esame quella particolare forma di indignazione che Aristotele indica, nel secondo libro della Retorica, con l’infinito sostantivato to nemesan, derivato dal termine nemesis. Si tratta della reazione che si genera in un animo nobile contro chi prospera al di là del merito. Il sostantivo e i suoi derivati risultano poco usati in età classica e ricorre più frequentemente nell’epica omerica e in Esiodo. The relationship between metaphysics and ethics in classical Greek philosophy is understood not as a relationship of unilateral foundation but of co-foundation: not only in Aristotle, but also in Plato, insofar as it is considered problematic to make a rigid distinction between the young, aporetic Plato and the dogmatic, mature Plato. Through Heidegger’s reflection on care as a re-proposal of this co- founding relationship of metaphysics and ethics present in Aristotle, the paper ar- gues that the relationship between ethics and metaphysics in the ancient Greeks can indicate a way forward in our fragile, restless and divided contemporary world.

We present probabilistic approaches to check the validity of selected connexive principles within the setting of coherence. Connexive logics emerged from the intuition that conditionals of the form If \(\mathord {\thicksim }A\), then A, should not hold, since the conditional’s antecedent \(\mathord {\thicksim }A\) contradicts its consequent A. Our approach covers this intuition by observing that for an event A the only coherent probability assessment on the conditional event \(A|\bar{A}\) is \(p(A|\bar{A})=0\).
