Smooth and non-smooth traveling wave solutions of some generalized Camassa–Holm equations

In this paper we employ two recent analytical approaches to investigate the possible classes of traveling wave solutions of some members of a recently-derived integrable family of generalized Camassa-Holm (GCH) equations. A recent, novel application of phase-plane analysis is employed to analyze the singular traveling wave equations of three of the GCH NLPDEs, i.e. the possible non-smooth peakon, cuspon and compacton solutions. Two of the GCH equations do not support singular traveling waves. The Euro-Dollar Exchange Rate: Is it Fundamental?

In this paper we have applied two approaches to the study of the dollar real exchange rate in relation with the Euro-area currencies. First, using dynamic panel techniques, we estimate an error correction model for the dollar real exchange rate versus seven developed countries, four of them Euro-area members. Second, we aggregate the European variables and estimate a model for the Euro-dollar real exchange rate using time series techniques. Singularity tracking for Camassa-Holm and Prandtl's equations

In this paper we consider the phenomenon of singularity formation for the Camassa-Holm equation and for Prandtl's equations. We solve these equations using spectral methods. Then we track the singularity in the complex plane estimating the rate of decay of the Fourier spectrum. This method allows us to follow the process of the singularity formation as the singularity approaches the real axis.
Large-photon-number limit and the essential singularity in finite quantum electrodynamics

It is shown that the essential singularity in finite quantum electrodynamics can be located by considering only those diagrams with a large number of photons exchanged in the single-fermion loop, without photons emitted and absorbed on a fermion line. (AIP)
Critical behavior of short range Potts glasses

We study by means of Monte Carlo simulations and the numerical transfer matrix technique the critical behavior of the short rangep=3 state Potts glass model in dimensionsd=2,3,4 with both Gaussian and bimodal (±J) nearest neighbor interactions on hypercubic lattices employing finite size scaling ideas. Ind=2 in addition the degeneracy of the glass ground state is computed as a function of the number of Potts states forp=3, 4, 5 and compared to that of the antiferromagnetic ground state. Self-dual modules over local rings of curve singularities

Abstract Let C be a reduced curve singularity. C is called of finite self-dual type if there exist only finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable, self-dual, torsion-free modules over the local ring of C . In this paper it is shown that the singularities of finite self-dual type are those which dominate a simple plane singularity.

Kernel image similarity criterion

This paper presents a family of metrics for assessing image similarity. The methods use the Hilbert-Schmidt Independence Criterion (HSIC) to estimate nonlinear statistical dependence between multidimensional images. The proposed methods have very good theoretical and practical properties. We illustrate the performance in evaluating the quality of natural photographic images, hyperspectral images under different noise levels, in synthetic multiresolution problems, and real pansharpening products.
Scad-elastic net and the estimation of individual tourism expenditure determinants

This paper introduces the use of scad-elastic net in the assessment of the determinants of individual tourist spending. This technique approaches two main estimation-related issues of primary importance. So far studies of tourism literature have made a wide use of classic regressions, whose results might be affected by multicollinearity. In addition, because of the absence of robust economic theory on tourism behavior, regressor selection is often left to researcher's choice when not driven by non-optimal automatic criteria.
