Production of β-glucosidases by European Armillaria species

2020

International audience; Abstract Production of β-glucosidase was investigated in nine isolates of Armillaria representing four species found in Europe: Armillaria mellea and Armillaria ostoyae, considered to be pathogenic and moderately pathogenic, respectively, and Armillaria. gallica and Armillaria cepistipes, both considered to be non-pathogenic. β-glucosidase was predominantly produced in the rhizomorphs, while the vegetative mycelium produced only a low amount of enzyme. Pachlewski's medium containing ammonium tartrate, glucose, maltose and thiamine was very efficient in promoting differentiation and growth of rhizomorphs. In A. ostoyae and A. cepistipes, a large proportion of β-glucos…

First Report of Armillaria mellea on a Fern from Italy

2019

Several perennial species of rhizomatous herbaceous ferns are cultivated as ornamental foliage plants. During late summer 1999, in a garden at the foot of Mount Etna, eastern Sicily (Italy), we noted a fern hedge showing patches of withered or stunted plants. The fern was identified as Cyrtomium falcatum (L.f.) C. Presl. (=Polystichum falcatum (L.f.) Diels), a house holly fern or Japanese holly fern, which is an ornamental fern native to East and South Asia. Other woody plants in the immediate vicinity had died over the last few years, including apricot and cedar trees whose stumps had not been removed. A close examination of uprooted ferns revealed the presence of creamy white fan-shaped …

First Report of Armillaria Butt Rot Caused by Armillaria mellea on Phoenix canariensis in Italy.

2007

During 2006, in a garden in the Mount Etna Piedmont, eastern Sicily (Italy), a 40-year-old specimen of Canary Island date palm (Phoenix canariensis hort. ex Chabaud) with a trunk circumference at breast height of 220 cm showed a rotted lesion with a viscous, brown ooze at the stem base and root initials. The lesion extended to approximately one-third of the trunk circumference. Trunk excavation exposed a wet rot of internal tissues, a cream-colored mycelial mat, and a mushroom-like smell. Although the rot spread inward (approximately 25 cm deep) with decay of nonlignified ground tissues and blackening of wood fibers, the palm did not show symptoms on the canopy. Conversely, ferns, apricot,…

Celmeņu Armillaria spp. dzīvotspēja un patogenitāte Latvijas izcelsmes priežu Pinus sylvestris un egļu Picea abies stādos

2017

Patogēna dzīvotspēja bija atkarīga no tā sugas: A. cepistipes būtiski augstāka, bet A. solidipes viszemākā. Augstāko izplatīšanās potenciālu konstatēja A. cepistipes, bet viszemāko A. solidipes. Visas trīs Armillaria sugas…

Celmeņu Armillaria spp. sastopamība parastās egles Picea abies audzēs kūdreņos

2022

Darbs izstrādāts Latvijas Valsts mežzinātnes institūta „Silava” Fitopatoloģijas un mikoloģijas laboratorijā un Ģenētisko resursu centrā. Pētījums veikts akciju sabiedrības „Latvijas valsts meži” un Latvijas valsts mežzinātnes institūta „Silava” zinātņietilpīgā līgumdarba „Sakņu trupes bojājumu risku mazināšana un tās ietekmes izpēte” ietvaros. Pētījumā analizēta celmeņu Armillaria spp. sastopamība ar Heterobasidion spp. inficētās parastās egles Picea abies audzēs ar nosusinātām kūdras augsnēm. Rizomorfu paraugi ievākti piecos parauglaukumos Meža pētīšanas stacijas „Kalsnava” teritorijā. Izmantojot programmu Win RHIZO 2005 C, analizēti rizomorfu morfoloģiskie rādītāji. Armillaria spp. sugu n…
