The Diversification of Sicilian Farms: A Way to Sustainable Rural Development

Rural areas still suffer from a lack of sustainable development, and the diversification of farms may be a step in the right direction. The paper provides a detailed picture of the diversification of Sicilian farms into tourism services. Specifically, we propose a simple indicator of localization intensity of agritourism farms and explore their spatial distribution at municipality level. Our study highlights that Sicilian farms rarely diversify into tourism services, despite being situated in attractive areas. That said, some significant spatial clusters of municipalities where agritourism farms are highly concentrated do emerge from the study.

The word dweorg with the meaning ‘dwarf’ was certainly available in Anglo-Saxon England, as attested to by the earliest glossaries, such as those of Épinal and Erfurt, where it is used to render the Latin nanus and pumilio. OE dweorg also occurs in a group of five charms and medical recipes, where it seems to designate an ailment, characterized by a strong and sudden onset of fever. Particularly, in the remedies contained in the Medicina de quadrupedibus and in the Peri didaxeon – both translations of Latin medical treatises – OE dweorg means ‘fever’. Pirmajā nodaļā, analizējot pieejamo literatūru un informācijas avotus, tiek aprakstīta Franču interjera vēsturē, un tā ietekme uz Franču eklektiskā stila veidošanas. Empīriskajā daļā tiek veikts salīdzinošais pētījums par Franču eklektikas atbilstošiem dzīvokļu interjeriem Francijā un Maskavā. Radošajā daļā tiek izstrādāts interjera projekts atbilstoši Franču stila nosacījumiem, balstoties uz teorētiskajā un empīriskajā daļā izdarītajiem secinājumiem.

Objectives To investigate the prognostic value of B-mode and Power Doppler (PD) ultrasound of the median nerve for the short- and long-term clinical outcomes of patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Methods Prospective study of 135 patients with suspected CTS seen 3 times: at baseline, then at short-term (3 months) and long-term (15–36 months) follow-up. Archaeological surveys by test trenching and two preventive excavations of the Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives (Inrap) in 2001 and 2008 preceding the construction of a housing area in Rurange-lès-Thionville (Lorraine, Moselle) allowed documenting and investigating a Gallo-Roman farmstead of modest size.
