A Simple Phosphine–Diolefin‐Promoted Copper‐Catalysed N‐Arylation of Pyrazoles with (Hetero)aromatic Bromides: The Case of Chloroarenes Revisited

A molecularly defined new phosphine–diolefin cubane copper pre-catalyst used at 1.25 mol % under mild conditions promotes the coupling of pyrazoles to functionalised aryl and heteroaryl bromides, which hold a variety of functional groups. This versatile phosphorus-based system was thus successfully used, under identical conditions, for the coupling of a large scope of heteroaromatics to selectively produce pyridinyl- and pyrimidinyl-pyrazoles, as well as several novel furyl-, thienyl- and thiazolyl-substituted pyrazoles. The kinetics of the nucleophilic aromatic substitution of some 2-L-5-nitrothiophenes (para-like isomers) with three different amines (pyrrolidine, piperidine, and morpholine) were studied in three room-temperature ionic liquids ([bmim][BF4], [bmim][PF6], and [bm(2)im][BF4], where bmim = 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium and bm(2)im = 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium). To calculate thermodynamic parameters, a useful instrument to gain information concerning reagent-solvent interactions, the reaction was carried out over the temperature range 293-313 K. Abstract The local nucleophilicity of simple substituted aromatic systems is shown to be described on a quantitative basis by using a condensed-to-atoms nucleophilicity index. This quantity constitutes an extension of the global nucleophilicity descriptor, N introduced for reagents in cycloaddition reactions and other organic molecules [Journal of Organic Chemistry 73 (2008) 4615–4624; Journal of Molecular Structure (THEOCHEM) 865 (2008) 68–72]. Abstract The reaction of triphenylphosphonium cyclopentadienylide (1) with halogen-substituted p-benzoquinones (4) is shown to give a new class of dipolar (zwitterionic) dyes (5) containing phosphorus. The general structure of these molecules has been investigated by a combination of mass spectrometry and multinuclear (7H, 13C and 31P) nmr using the specialist techniques of DEFT spectroscopy, homonuclear (COSY) and heteronuclear 2-D nmr. Hexasubstituted Benzenes with Ultrastrong Dipole Moments

Hexasubstituted benzenes have been synthesized with the highest known dipole moments, as determined by dielectric spectroscopy and DFT methods. Based on the preparation of 4,5-diamino-3,6-dibromophthalonitrile, combined with a novel method to synthesize dihydrobenzimidazoles, these benzene derivatives have dipole moments in excess of 10 debye. Such dipole moments are desirable in ferroelectrics, nonlinear optics, and in organic photovoltaics. Structure determination was achieved through single-crystal X-ray crystallography, and the optical properties were determined by UV/Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy.

Radical Cyclization and 1,5-Hydrogen Transfer in Selected Aromatic Diazonium Salts

2-(Methyl(3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)carbamoyl)thiophene-3-diazonium hydrogen sulfate 20, 2-(methyl(3-methyl-isoxazol-5yl)carbamoyl)-benzenediazonium hydrogen sulfate 21 and 2-(methyl(phenyl)carbamoyl)-benzenediazonium hydrogen sulphate 22 were synthesized and reacted with a CuSO4/NaCl/ascorbic acid combination to give complex mixtures. The structures of the reaction products were elucidated, depending upon the pathways followed. Compound 20 almost exclusively afforded an Ar-5 cyclization product and trace amounts of the product derived from a competing Ar-6 Pschorr closure. Dimethylpyridin-4-ylamine (DMAP)-catalysed reactions of 2-amino-N,N,N-trimethyl-9H-purine-6-ylammonium chloride with fluoropyridine methoxides and various other alkoxides in DMSO at 60 °C gave the corresponding coupling products in moderate to good yields between 20-87%. Under these reaction conditions, fluorinated O 6 -substituted Guanine derivatives have been synthesized which could not be obtained via known analogous literature procedures. The respective yields of known O 6 -substituted guanine derivatives could be significantly improved by using this method.
