Conceptual design of the TRACE detector readout using a compact, dead time-less analog memory ASIC

2015

[EN] The new TRacking Array for light Charged particle Ejectiles (TRACE) detector system requires monitorization and sampling of all pulses in a large number of channels with very strict space and power consumption restrictions for the front-end electronics and cabling. Its readout system is to be based on analog memory ASICs with 64 channels each that sample a View the MathML source window of the waveform of any valid pulses at 200 MHz while discarding any other signals and are read out at 50 MHz with external ADC digitization. For this purpose, a new, compact analog memory architecture is described that allows pulse capture with zero dead time in any channel while vastly reducing the tota…

Transfer matrix method applied to the parallel assembly of sound absorbing materials

2013

International audience; The transfer matrix method (TMM) is used conventionally to predict the acoustic properties of laterally infinite homogeneous layers assembled in series to form a multilayer. In this work, a parallel assembly process of transfer matrices is used to model heterogeneous materials such as patchworks, acoustic mosaics, or a collection of acoustic elements in parallel. In this method, it is assumed that each parallel element can be modeled by a 2 × 2 transfer matrix, and no diffusion exists between elements. The resulting transfer matrix of the parallel assembly is also a 2 × 2 matrix that can be assembled in series with the classical TMM. The method is validated by compar…

Performance of the Fully Digital FPGA-Based Front-End Electronics for the GALILEO Array

2014

In this work we present the architecture and results of a fully digital Front End Electronics (FEE) read out system developed for the GALILEO array. The FEE system, developed in collaboration with the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) collaboration, is composed of three main blocks: preamplifiers, digitizers and preprocessing electronics. The slow control system contains a custom Linux driver, a dynamic library and a server implementing network services. The digital processing of the data from the GALILEO germanium detectors has demonstrated the capability to achieve an energy resolution of 1.53 per mil at an energy of 1.33 MeV.

Aqueous Processed Biopolymer Interfaces for Single-Cell Microarrays

2020

Single-cell microarrays are emerging tools to unravel intrinsic diversity within complex cell populations, opening up new approaches for the in-depth understanding of highly relevant diseases. However, most of the current methods for their fabrication are based on cumbersome patterning approaches, employing organic solvents and/or expensive materials. Here, we demonstrate an unprecedented green-chemistry strategy to produce single-cell capture biochips onto glass surfaces by all-aqueous inkjet printing. At first, a chitosan film is easily inkjet printed and immobilized onto hydroxyl-rich glass surfaces by electrostatic immobilization. In turn, poly(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether is graft…

Arrays of Rotating Permanent Magnet Dipoles for Stirring and Pumping of Liquid Metals

2015

AbstractMultiple configurations of synchronously rotating permanent magnet cylinders magnetized across the axes are proposed for liquid metal stirring for homogenization as well as for pumping. Universal analytical model is used for an initial parameter analysis. Then experimental setups were built to perform physical modelling of the industrial applications, e.g. large-scale metallurgical furnaces. Velocity distribution in the liquid metal was measured using different methods: the Ultrasound Doppler anemometry and the potential difference probes. The study shows that the cylindrical permanent magnet setups can achieve up to 10 times higher energy efficiency compared to AC inductors and hav…

Discrete wavelet transform based multispectral filter array demosaicking

2013

International audience; The idea of colour filter array may be adapted to multi-spectral image acquisition by integrating more filter types into the array, and developing associated demosaicking algorithms. Several methods employing discrete wavelet transform (DWT) have been proposed for CFA demosaicking. In this work, we put forward an extended use of DWT for mul-tispectral filter array demosaicking. The extension seemed straightforward, however we observed striking results. This work contributes to better understanding of the issue by demonstrating that spectral correlation and spatial resolution of the images exerts a crucial influence on the performance of DWT based demosaicking.

Real-Time Implementation of Signal Processing Techniques for Disturbances Detection

2019

The real-time analysis of power quality (PQ) disturbances and islanding detection for distributed generation (DG) system using signal processing algorithms are still at a premature stage. Quick and reliable detection of islanding and PQ disturbances needs renewed focus. This paper is concentrated on the implementation of advanced signal processing techniques in field-programmable gate array (FPGA) to identify PQ and islanding events in real time. The proposed scheme is based on orthogonal empirical mode decomposition (OEMD) implemented in FPGA. This technique does not suffer from the loss of signal characteristics with successive decomposition levels. The performance of said technique is de…

A real-time non-intrusive FPGA-based drowsiness detection system

2011

Automotive has gained several benefits from the Ambient Intelligent researches involving the deployment of sensors and hardware devices into an intelligent environment surrounding people, meeting users’ requirements and anticipating their needs. One of the main topics in automotive is to anticipate driver needs and safety, in terms of preventing critical and dangerous events. Considering the high number of caused accidents, one of the most relevant dangerous events affecting driver and passengers safety is driver’s drowsiness and hypovigilance. This paper presents a low-intrusive, real-time driver’s drowsiness detection system for common vehicles. The proposed system exploits the ‘‘bright p…
