Pursuits of the Dioecese of Wrocław for Exemption - from thr Beginning of the 14th Century to 1821
2022
Lactic Acid Bacteria in Spanish Red Rose and White Musts and Wines under Cellar Conditions
1992
The dynamics of the lactic acid bacterial (LAB) population in different cellars, fermentation conditions and musts were analyzed. The number of LAB in fresh musts diminished quickly in the first few days, but an increase of these bacteria occurred during the later stages of the alcoholic fermentation. The species found in fresh musts were Lactobacillus plantarum, L. hilgardii, L. brevis, L. confusus, and Leuc. onostoc paramesenteroides. At the end of fermentation only L. hilgardii, Leuc. oenos and L. fructivorans were isolated. The API 50 CHL system was not useful to identify strains of Leuc. oenos species. All the isolated strains degraded malic acid in synthetic medium but only two strain…
Response to salinity stress of Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. viciae strains in the presence of different legume host plants
2011
We investigated the effect of residual salts from the previous summer’s irrigation on two non-irrigated cover crops—broad bean and common vetch—and on their rhizobial symbiontics. Before sowing, seeds were inoculated with a salt-tolerant strain and a salt-sensitive strain of Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar viciae. An increase in the electrical conductivity of the saturated-soil extract from 2.0 dS m−1 to 6.0 dS m−1 caused a severe reduction of broad bean biomass, while growth of common vetch was almost unaffected by the salinity level. Our results clearly indicate that common vetch as a cover crop may increase the availability of nitrogen in soil more than broad bean also in saline environme…
Der Stoffwechsel verschiedener Carbonsuren durch Milchsurebakterien
1984
The anaerobic metabolism of citrate, fumarate, gluconate, malate, 2-oxoglutarate and pyruvate by 137 strains of 23 species of lactic acid bacteria was investigated. The bacteria were from various sources (plant material, meat and dairy products, dough and wine) and belonged to the genera Lactobacillus, Leuconostoc, Pediococcus, and Streptococcus. The ability of metabolize the acids was determined by thin layer chromatography or by enzymatic analysis after growth of the strains in a glucose-containing medium. All strains metabolized pyruvate and only 12 mainly heterofermentative strains were malate negative. These strains were also unable to decompose citrate. This acid was fermented by 23 s…
Differential Contribution of the Parental Genomes to a
2019
In European regions of cold climate, S. uvarum can replace S. cerevisiae in wine fermentations performed at low temperatures. S. uvarum is a cryotolerant yeast that produces more glycerol, less acetic acid and exhibits a better aroma profile. However, this species exhibits a poor ethanol tolerance compared with S. cerevisiae. In the present study, we obtained by rare mating (non-GMO strategy), and a subsequent sporulation, an interspecific S. cerevisiae × S. uvarum spore-derivative hybrid that improves or maintains a combination of parental traits of interest for the wine industry, such as good fermentation performance, increased ethanol tolerance, and high glycerol and aroma productions. G…
The influence of backslopping on lactic acid bacteria diversity in tarhana fermentation
2020
Tarhana is produced at batch systems in which the microbiota has changed accordingly to the microbial load from ingredients. In order to stabilize the microbiota, the effects of backslopping carried out under different temperature regimes (25 and 30 °C), pH (3.70 and 4.00) and inoculation rates (5, 10 and 15%) on lactic acid bacteria (LAB) diversity were determined in tarhana dough. LAB and Total Aerobic Mesophilic Bacteria (TAMB) numbers increased in all tarhana dough samples subjected to backslopping. Temperature and pH significantly affected the microbiological diversity of tarhana whereas the different inoculation rates did not. Tarhana dough showed complex tarhana microbiota following …

'An Old English Gloss to the Scholica Graecarum Glossarum'
1993
‘The Scholica Graecarum glossarum and Scaliger’s “Liber glossarum ex variis glossariis collectus”’
2016
Glossaries were the natural storehouses of learning all through the Middle Ages. Composed in different ways, these compilations collected items from Classical, Late Antique and Medieval texts, as well as from big encyclopaedias such as Isidore’s Etymologiae. A number of large glossaries, circulating in multiple copies both in Anglo-Saxon England and on the Continent, contributed to spreading the knowledge of a number of set works and authors, from the Bible to Jerome, from Vergil to Aldhelm. These works were ransacked to pick up words used with a peculiar turn of meaning, archaisms, neologisms and loanwords (but also more common words). Now made into the entries of glossaries, these words l…
