A Binary Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm for a Double Auction Market
2007
In this paper, we shall show the design of a multi-unit double auction (MDA) market. It should be enough robust, flexible and sufficiently efficient in facilitating exchanges. In a MDA market, sellers and buyers submit respectively asks and bids. A trade is made if a buyers bid exceeds a sellers ask. A sellers ask may match several buyers bids and a buyers bid may satisfy several sellers asks. The trading rule of a market defines the organization, information exchange process, trading procedure and clearance rules of the market. The mechanism is announced before the opening of the market so that every agent knows how the market will operate in advance. These autonomous agents pursue their o…
CSRZ-ASK and DPSK 40 Gb/s All-Raman WDM Transmission Based on UltraWave Fiber
2006
In this paper, we report a complete experimental and numerical analysis of 40 Gb/s WDM ultra long-haul (ULH) transmission using CSRZ-DPSK and CSRZ-ASK modulation formats on UltraWavetrade fiber spans. Experimental results compare well with full numerical simulations
Heterogeneity of traditional and digital media use among older adults: A six-country comparison
2021
Abstract The concept of aged heterogeneity has been associated with older adults' ability to adapt to the digital age without a systematic empirical analysis. We analyse retired adults' (aged 62 or more) use of traditional media and their digital equivalents in six countries. First, we ask whether heterogeneity in traditional and digital media use increases with age. Second, we study to what extent gender is related to this heterogeneity, and third, the country differences in the heterogeneity of media use in later life. We analyse the 2018 data (N = 5865) of the ‘Older audiences in the digital media environment’ survey using zero-inflated negative binomial models. The results provide parti…
Secondary Education Students’ Questions on Experimental Devices
2012
Questions raised in science education : a Colombian-Spanish comparative study
2016
Experiences of people with memory disorders and their spouse carers on influencing formal care: “They ask my wife questions that they should ask me”
2021
Background People with memory disorders often need care and help from family carers and health and social care providers. Due to the deterioration of cognitive capacity and language skills, they may be unable to convey their thoughts and care preferences to other people. As a result, their agency may become restricted. We investigated the descriptions provided by people with memory disorders and spousal carers of their influence on care in encounters with formal care providers. Methods Qualitative thematic analysis was used to identify, analyze, and report themes that describe encounters with professionals in different social or healthcare environments. In-depth interview data were gathered…
Scholarly publishing depends on peer reviewers
2018
The peer-review crisis is posing a risk to the scholarly peer-reviewed journal system. Journals have to ask many potential peer reviewers to obtain a minimum acceptable number of peers accepting reviewing a manuscript. Several solutions have been suggested to overcome this shortage. From reimbursing for the job, to eliminating pre-publication reviews, one cannot predict which is more dangerous for the future of scholarly publishing. And, why not acknowledging their contribution to the final version of the article published? PubMed created two categories of contributors: authors [AU] and collaborators [IR]. Why not a third category for the peer-reviewer? published
Coping Strategies against peer victimization: differences according to gender, grade, victimization status and perceived classroom social climate
2021
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include “Good Health and Well-being” (SDG3) and “Quality Education” (SDG4). Nevertheless, many students cannot achieve these goals if they suffer peer victimization at their schools, and intervention programs to reduce it are necessary. These programs should consider the possible differences in the coping strategies preferred by students according to some personal (e.g., gender, grade, victimization status) and contextual (e.g., perceived classroom social climate) factors to be more effective. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the possible differences in the coping strategies preferred by students (ask a friend for help, ask a tea…
Observing The Decision-Making Process
2016
International audience; In this chapter we ask how knowledge can be acquired about the decision-making processes associated with residential choice. As shown by the results of the many areas of research set out in chapter 2, a great number of factors may influence the decision to move home. Because we are more especially interested in the actual decision-making process, we must consider the mental factors that may condition it.
