Cardiac kinematic parameters computed from video of in situ beating heart

2017

AbstractMechanical function of the heart during open-chest cardiac surgery is exclusively monitored by echocardiographic techniques. However, little is known about local kinematics, particularly for the reperfused regions after ischemic events. We report a novel imaging modality, which extracts local and global kinematic parameters from videos of in situ beating hearts, displaying live video cardiograms of the contraction events. A custom algorithm tracked the movement of a video marker positioned ad hoc onto a selected area and analyzed, during the entire recording, the contraction trajectory, displacement, velocity, acceleration, kinetic energy and force. Moreover, global epicardial veloc…

Permanent Pacemaker Lead Insertion Connected to an External Pacemaker Generator for Temporary Pacing After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation.

2019

Abstract Background Outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) have been demonstrated to be at least equivalent in the short term compared to surgical valve implantation (SAVI). However, Conduction abnormalities are more common after TAVI than SAVI and the need for permanent pacemaker implantation is more common after TAVI with the currently commercially available self-expanding valves than after SAVI. Temporary pacemaker implantation may be associated with inability to ambulate, lead migration or perforation and infection. Depending on the monitoring system, some arrhythmias may not be detected. We examined the feasibility and safety of permanent pacemaker lead implantat…

Safety of the first dose of fingolimod for multiple sclerosis: results of an open-label clinical trial

2014

BACKGROUND: In patients with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) fingolimod prevents disease relapses and delays disability progression. First dose administration of fingolimod is associated with a transient, dose-dependent decrease in heart rate (HR) in the 6 hours after drug intake. The aim of the study is to to assess safety and tolerability of the first dose of fingolimod in a cohort of Italian patients with RRMS without alternative therapeutic options. METHODS: Open-label, single arm, multicentre study. After the first dose of fingolimod, patients were observed for 6 hours and had their vital signs monitored hourly. Extended on-site monitoring was provided when required. RESULTS: Of the 906 p…

Die Wirkung von Ouabain auf die Elimination von Noradrenalin aus der Perfusionsflssigkeit des isolierten Kaninchenherzens

1966

Isolated rabbit hearts were perfused with Tyrode solution containing 10 ng/ml (-)-noradrenaline for 20 min. The uptake by the heart of noradrenaline was calculated by estimating the percentage of amine removed from the perfusion fluid during a single passage through the heart. Previous experiments have shown that the amount of noradrenaline removed from the perfusion fluid corresponds well to the amount retained by the heart. In control experiments, the mean removal (elimination) of noradrenaline was 50±1.7% of the amount infused as measured biologically and 46±2.2% as measured fluorimetrically. Ouabain was added to the perfusion fluid at concentrations ranging from 2.74·10−7 to 2.0·10−6 mo…

A G613A missense in the Hutchinson's progeria lamin A/C gene causes a lone, autosomal dominant atrioventricular block.

2014

Background LMNA/C mutations have been linked to the premature aging syndrome Hutchinson’s progeria, dilated cardiomyopathy 1A, skeletal myopathies (such as the autosomal dominant variant of Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy and limb-girdle muscular dystrophy), Charcot-Marie-Tooth disorder type 2B1, mandibuloacral dysplasia, autosomal dominant partial lipodystrophy, and axonal neuropathy. Atrioventricular block (AVB) can be associated with several cardiac disorders and it can also be a highly heritable, primitive disease. One of the most common pathologies associated with AVB is dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), which is characterized by cardiac dilatation and reduced systolic function. In this …

Chronisches thromboembolisches Cor pulmonale bei schrittmacherassoziierten rechtsatrialen Thromben: Pulmonale Thrombendarteriektomie mit Elektrodenen…

2008

Life-threatening chronic cor pulmonale occurred in a 22-year-old woman with congenital 3 degrees atrioventricular block, 6 years after implantation of a pacemaker and 3 1/2 years after removal of the pacemaker (the electrodes were too firmly attached to be removed). The emboli originated from the right-atrial thrombi which had formed around the electrodes left in situ. The embolic source shrank during systemic administration of urokinase, initially 600,000 IU in 60 min, then 100,000 IU per hour, and pulmonary perfusion improved transiently. Nonetheless the patient became breathless on the slightest physical exertion. Recurrent syncopal attacks with marked increase of pulmonary artery pressu…
