Elementary school teachers adapt their instructional support according to students' academic skills – A variable and person-oriented approach

This study examined the longitudinal associations between children’s academic skills and the instructional support teachers gave individual students. A total of 253 Finnish children were tested on reading and math skills twice in the first grade and once in the second grade. The teachers of these children rated the instructional support that they gave each child in reading and mathematics. The results showed that the poorer the student’s reading and math skills were, the more support and attention the student received from his or her teacher later on. Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa tutkittiin opiskelijan huomion kohdetta lukion fysiikan tunnilla. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, vastaako opiskelijan visuaalinen huomio opettajan antamia vihjeitä, kun opettaja opettaa luokassa yhteisesti simulaation avulla. Aineiston kerääminen toteutettiin Tobii Pro Glasses 2 -katseenseurantalaseilla ja SRI-haastattelun avulla ja datan analysointiin käytettiin Microsoft Excel -ohjelmistoa. Professional vision in the classroom: Teachers’ knowledge-based reasoning explaining their visual focus of attention to students

This study investigated Grade 2 teachers' (N = 50) professional vision through eye-tracking methodology and retrospective think-aloud interviews. The study examined the extent to which teachers' knowledge-based reasoning explains their visual focus of attention to whole class and individual students. We found that teachers' descriptions of students' social relations and emotions associated positively with teachers' visual focus of attention to the whole class. Students with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are a growing group served under special education services in many western societies. This article describes the history and current state of the services, as well as the assessment procedure. Our conclusion is that the status of students with ADHD in Finnish basic education (Grades 1 to 9) is still unclear. Based on the comparison of the prevalence and the population served in special education we can assume that this group is probably underserved in the Finnish school system. Emotional modulation of the attentional blink and the relation to interpersonal reactivity

The extent of the attentional blink effect on detection rates in rapid serial visual presentations is modulated by the emotionality of the stimuli. Emotionally salient stimuli are detected more often, even if presented in the attentional blink period, and elicit an enlarged P3 response, which has been interpreted as enhanced consolidation. This effect correlates with individual differences in trait affectivity such as anxiety or dysphoria.
