The Moral Dimension in the Configuration and Historical Evolution of the Concept of Poverty

The phenomenon of poverty shows clearly the overflow of its economic dimension towards a powerful moral dimension, which has caused (and causes) contradictory social attitudes: acceptance or rejection; blaming or understanding; charity or duties, liability or inevitable fate; involvement or alienation; visibility or invisibility. This work analyzes the moral connotations that have been historically forming the concept of poverty to lead the paradigms with which today we conceive it and from which we intend to face it and fight it.
Refinement and validation of a comprehensive scale for measuring HR practices aimed at performance-enhancement and employee-support

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to refine and validate a Human Resource practices (HRP) scale to measure employees' perceptions and test a two-tier model structured in eight practices and two bundles. In a sample of 554 employees, an EFA (Exploratory Factor Analysis) offered six factors that explained about 70% of the variance. Then, with 1647 employees (from 41 Spanish organizations), first- and second-order models were tested with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The former encompasses eight practices. Purpose To assess midwives' knowledge about oral health and early caries prevention during perinatal care for mothers and babies. Study design and methods A survey developed by the investigators was conducted among midwives to assess their knowledge about caries etiology, their attitude toward their role in early caries prevention, and prophylactic measures recommended during pregnancy, and after birth, for their babies. SummaryEarly stage COPD carries a significant healthcare burden that is currently underrecognised, underdiagnosed and undertreated. Furthermore, patients at this stage can rapidly decline to advanced disease, especially if they continue to smoke. The natural history of the disease in early stages remains largely unknown, and emerging evidence indicates that we are able to reduce lung function decline and exacerbations, and improve quality of life, in early stage COPD, mainly through smoking cessation.
