Hedonic message or nutritional message: Which one works?
2019
Eating is not just about incorporating foods or nutrients. Eating or feeding is both a symbolic and social act that is part of a family, a history and a society. This is an essential act which contributes to social identity and to alterity, and which is a vector of pleasure and commensality. However, eating becomes a source of worries because of the conflicting messages and unrealistic injunctions broadcasted through paper press and Internet web sites that lead to misunderstandings and confusions in the mind of the eaters. Moreover, the pleasure of eating is demonized and stigmatized in favor of rational messages highlighting the nutritional values of "healthy" foods to be favored. However,…

Dimensioni di attaccamento e formazione delle visioni del mondo e delle ideologie
2013
The aim of this study was to investigate the role of attachment dimensions in framing worldviews and socio-political attitudes. A study on 178 Italian university students in Palermo was conducted. A causal model is tested where social conformity, toughmindedness, and insecure attachment dimensions were considered antecedents, and right-wing authoritarianism and social dominance orientation were the dependent variables. The structural equation modeling showed a good fit. The model evidenced the mediation role of worldviews in the relation between social conformity, toughmindedness, attachments, and socio-political attitudes. The avoidance attachment predicted world as competitive jungle, the…

2nd and 3rd graders' attitudes towards the English language : attitudes before and after studying English at school
2014
Oppilaat aloittavat Suomessa englannin opiskelun useimmiten 3. luokalla. Asenteilla on suuri merkitys englannin kielen oppimistuloksien kannalta. Tutkimus käsittelee my…

The good, the bad and the advantageous : Migrants’ attitudes towards other migrants
2023
There is a growing number of various ethnic groups in Finland. The attitudes and categorizations that host country nationals have and make regarding migrants is frequently researched. The attitudes that migrants have towards other migrants has, however, been much less researched. This paper provides an in-depth analysis that considers what factors are behind the attitudes that migrants form of other migrants and how these impact categorizations and hierarchies. The empirical research material of this study is based on 77 qualitative interviews with migrants living in Finland, carried out in 2018–2019. In the analysis, various theories of minority relations are applied. The research finds th…

Psychological correlates of physical activity and exercise preferences in metropolitan and nonmetropolitan cancer survivors
2021
Objective Interventions to increase physical activity (PA) in cancer survivors have often adopted a ‘one‐size‐fits‐all’ approach, and may benefit from being tailored to psychological constructs associated with behavior. The study objective was to investigate the exercise preferences and psychological constructs related to PA among cancer survivors. Methods Post‐treatment colorectal, endometrial, and breast cancer survivors (n=183) living in metropolitan and non‐metropolitan areas completed survey measures of PA, exercise preferences, attitudes, self‐efficacy, perceived behavioral control (PBC), and intention toward PA. Results A structural equation model with adequate fit and quality indice…
Basic school teachers' attitudes towards inclusive education in Ghana
2011
ABSTRACT Attitudes towards Inclusive Education are extremely complex and vary from one teacher to another. This is because traditionally, children with Special Education Needs (SEN) have been segregated into separate learning environments. This practice is now being questioned by teachers who believe it is an infringement of the rights of children with SEN. The proponents of Inclusive Education (IE) are of the opinion that including students with disabilities into mainstream classrooms would maximise their learning experiences. The present study examined the attitudes of basic school teachers in mainstream classrooms towards Inclusive Education in Ghana. It also assessed the best learning e…
