This article explores the methodological and ethical issues that arise from ethnographic research in sexual practices in the study of non-normative sexualities. It explores the researcher as a subject in the research as well as doing the research. Taking a queer approach, it identifies key themes and issues that the reflexive researcher faces when in the field.

Traditional liberal education has provided one-size-fits-all schooling, followed by neoliberal policies in the past 30 years, resulting in losing the purpose of education to build well-rounded personalities and to ensure quality education for all. Instead, the ideal today is the homo economicus able to further personal goals on self-interest, and the global divide between the haves and have-nots has increased. Appare interessante, per concludere questa sezione, considerare come il sex work possa muoversi oltre che sui confini tra gli orientamenti sessuali anche su quanto definisco linea etno-sessuale del sex working. The article represents an epistemological and methodological enquiry on the use of qualitative research methods, and specifically ethnographical practice, in the study of non-normative sexualities. It will take mainly into account a series of ethnographic observations of an ongoing research project on male sex work in southern Italy.
