Decentralized Coordination System for Multiple AGVs in a Structured Environment

2011

Abstract In this paper, we propose a decentralized coordination algorithm for safe and efficient management of a group of mobile robots following predefined paths in a dynamic industrial environment. The proposed algorithm is based on shared resources and proved to guarantee ordered traffic flows avoiding collisions and deadlocks. In consistency with the model of distributed robotic systems (DRS), no centralized mechanism, synchronized clock, shared memory or ground support is needed. A local inter-robot communication is required among a small number of spatially adjacent robotic units.

Model predictive control for continuous lactide ring‐opening polymerization processes

2020

International audience; Polylactic acid (PLA) is an attractive environment-friendly thermoplastic that is bio-sourced and biodegradable. PLA is industrially produced by the ring-opening polymerization of Lactide. This reaction is sensitive to drifts in the operating conditions and impurities in the raw materials that may affect the reaction rate as well as the polymer properties, which can be very costly in continuous processes. It is therefore crucial to employ a control strategy that allows recovering the nominal conditions and maintaining the desired properties and conversion level in case of drift. Three control strategies are discussed in this paper: Proportional-Integral controller (P…

Boundary controlled irreversible port-Hamiltonian systems

2021

Abstract Boundary controlled irreversible port-Hamiltonian systems (BC-IPHS) defined on a 1-dimensional spatial domain are defined by extending the formulation of reversible BC-PHS to irreversible thermodynamic systems controlled at the boundaries of their spatial domain. The structure of BC-IPHS has clear physical interpretation, characterizing the coupling between energy storing and energy dissipating elements. By extending the definition of boundary port variables of BC-PHS to deal with the irreversible energy dissipation, a set of boundary port variables are defined such that BC-IPHS are passive with respect to a given set of conjugated inputs and outputs. As for finite dimensional IPHS…

Classification et chronologie de bas fourneaux de réduction du fer à usage unique au sud-ouest du Niger

2016

In southwestern Niger, near Niamey, several thousand single-use bloomery furnaces have been mapped and identified. The archaeological study of approximately 30 furnaces and their slag reveals the existence of four methods for iron smelting: three types of pit furnace and one slag-tapping type. The slag pit furnaces are clearly differentiated by the form and volume of their pits. All slag-tapping furnaces drain off slag through small openings. The slag is tapped either vertically or laterally. According to radiocarbon dates, the smelting activity developed in the 2 nd century AD and intensified through to the 14 th century. It continued to evolve until the middle of the 20 th century. The lo…

Analysis of a slow–fast system near a cusp singularity

2016

This paper studies a slow fast system whose principal characteristic is that the slow manifold is given by the critical set of the cusp catastrophe. Our analysis consists of two main parts: first, we recall a formal normal form suitable for systems as the one studied here; afterwards, taking advantage of this normal form, we investigate the transition near the cusp singularity by means of the blow up technique. Our contribution relies heavily in the usage of normal form theory, allowing us to refine previous results. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Automatic Customization Framework for Efficient Vehicle Routing System Deployment

2017

Vehicle routing systems provide several advantages over manual transportation planning and they are attracting growing attention. However, deployment of these systems can be prohibitively costly, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises: the customization, integration, and migration is laborious and requires operations research expetise. We propose an automated configuration workflow for vehicle routing system and data flow customization, which provides the necessary basis for more experimental work on the subject. Our preliminary results with learning and adaptive algorithms support the assumption of applicability of the proposed configuration framework. The strategies presented h…

Integrated Computer-Aided Innovation: The PROSIT approach

2009

Abstract The paper presents a methodology aimed at the improvement of the product development cycle through the integration of Computer-Aided Innovation (CAI) with Optimization and PLM systems. The interoperability of these tools is obtained through the adoption of Optimization systems as a bridging element between CAI and PLM systems. This methodology was developed within the PROSIT project ( http://www.kaemart.it/prosit ). The paper describes the main issues related to the integration of these complementary instruments and the solutions proposed by the authors. More specifically, the main idea of the PROSIT project to link CAI and Optimization systems is the adoption of the latter tools n…

Some recent contributions to routing and location problems

2003

CORAL 2003, a Conference on Routing and Location, washeld in Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife, Spain) from February24–26, 2003. A wonderful place, close to the black sand ofthe beach, and a nice temperature welcomed a group ofsenior and young researchers from Canada, England,France, Germany, and Spain. Social activities were alsoprovided and sponsored by the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife(the local government) and TITSA (the public bus transpor-tation company on the island). The conference corre-sponded to the third annual meeting of a research project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology, developing a Decision Support System for Vehicle Routingand Facility Location Problems (SAD…

On the effects of BAC systems and load control programs on the utility grid

2017

The electricity demand increasing for the comfort improvement in residential buildings is nowadays stressing the MV and LV networks in urban areas. In this framework, the Distribution System Operators (DSO) are exposed to the risk of reliability decrease and there is, earlier than expected, the issue of new and substantial investments for enhancing the network infrastructure. Nevertheless, DSOs have a very strong inclination to defer investment in new facilities in favour of more "flexible measures" for improving the life of the existing components. Solutions of this type are primarily based on demand management, i.e. activities aimed at encouraging the end-users to a different/smart electr…

Review of information and communication technologies for smart micro-grid automation

2017

The growing challenges of Smart Micro-Grid can only be met if secure and fast information and communication technology (ICT) solutions are developed. In this paper, some of the ICT techniques are reviewed for smart micro-grid automation. Firstly, an overview of the role of ICT in grid distribution is explained with respect to electricity value chain in power distribution. Further, each domain in the value chain is analyzed with respect to ICT applications in power generation, transmission, distribution and consumption. ICT stands as a prominent driving force to enhance trustworthiness, security, and productivity of the power distribution through information exchange, regulated generation, d…
