PMG-pro: A model-driven method for the development of service-based applications in a heterogenous services environment

This paper presents PMG-pro (present, model, generate and provide), a development method of service-based applications. With PMG-pro, the composition of heterogeneous pre-made services is done at model levels and thereby different executable software systems for different target platforms can be generated automatically. To illustrate the method, we present a case study of developing a service-based application in a smart home environment.

Vehicle route optimization is an important application of combinatorial optimization. Therefore, a variety of methods has been proposed to solve different challenging vehicle routing problems. An important step in adopting these methods to solve real-life problems is to find appropriate parameters for the routing algorithms. 3D Reconstruction of rough terrain for USARSim using a height-map method

In this paper, a process for a simplified reconstruction of rough terrains from point clouds acquired using laser scanners is presented. The main idea of this work is to build height-maps which are level gray-scale images representing the ground elevation. These height-maps are generated from step-fields which can be represented by a set of side-by-side pillars. Although height-maps are a practical means for rough terrain reconstruction, it is not possible to represent two different elevations for a given location with one height-map. The problem has previously been studied within several contexts, the most popular of which is motivated by the need to select transportation routes for hazardous materials. A Scatter Search Algorithm for the Split Delivery Vehicle Routing Problem

In this chapter we present a metaheuristic procedure constructed for the special case of the Vehicle Routing Problem in which the demands of clients can be split, i.e., any client can be serviced by more than one vehicle. The proposed algorithm, based on the scatter search methodology, produces a feasible solution using the minimum number of vehicles. The quality of the obtained results is comparable to the best results known up to date on a set of instances previously published in the literature.

Continuous detection of new plant water status indicators in stage I of nectarine fruit growth

Conventional irrigation management is often inefficient in responding to seasonal changes of tree water needs. The use of leaf- and fruit-based sensors might provide helpful insights on tree water status, although they have been poorly investigated so far. Fruit gauges and leaf patch clamp pressure (LPCP) probes were tested during stage I of nectarine fruit growth to evaluate if leaf turgor pressure and fruit size may serve as indicators of water deficit. Comparison between the performances of daylight linked control system at two different latitudes

The aim of this work is to compare the performance of a daylight-linked control system installed and tested in two different case studies by means of a set of indices. The two case studies are characterized by different geometry, location and windows orientation. The first one is located at the ENEA premises in Lampedusa (IT, 35° 30' N); the second one is located in Palermo (IT, 38°6' N) on the third floor of the building 9 of the Department of Engineering if the University of Palermo.
