Survey on power increase of power by employment of PV reconfigurator
2015
This paper shows the performance of a PV system under shadow projection on PV panels. The reconfiguration techniques, employing a microprocessor-based system, modifies the layout of the PV plant by physically changing the connections among modules, in order to recover the loss of power due to the shadows. Different cases have been considered to evaluate the increase of power.
Distribution grid analysys through PSAT open source tools
2015
In this paper a study of an electrical distribution grid with presence of renewable energy sources performed using the Power System Analysis Tool is presented. The paper describes the load flow analysis of a real existing grid owned by the Italian DSO “ENEL Distribuzione SpA” and located in an urban area.
Stability analysis of rotor whirl under nonlinear internal friction by a general averaging approach
2016
The two main sources of internal friction in a rotor-shaft system are the shaft structural hysteresis and the possible shrink-fit release of the assembly. The internal friction tends to destabilize the over-critical rotor running, but a remedy against this effect may be provided by a proper combination of some external damping in the supports and an anisotropic arrangement of the support stiffness, or at most by the support damping alone, depending on the system geometry. The present analysis reported here considers a general asymmetric rotor-shaft system, where the rotor is perfectly rigid and is constrained by viscous–flexible supports having different stiffnesses on two orthogonal plane…
EEMD based analysis of vehicle crash responses
2015
The vehicle crash is a complex process with nonlinear large deformation of structures. The analysis of the crash process is one of the challenges for all vehicle safety researchers. In this paper, the Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD) method is applied in the analysis of crash responses in order to achieve some meaningful results. With the help of EEMD, the crash responses are decomposed into a trend signal and some high frequency fluctuations. By studying the load path of vehicle design, each component is corresponding to the structure of vehicle body. Consequently, some parameters of vehicle crash model can be identified. A frontal crash of Toyota Yaris is employed for demonstr…
A circuit model of a 5kW fuel cell
2013
In the last few years, industrial research has been focused on renewable energy sources. Owing to combined heat-power generation option, fuel cells have attracted much interest for a wide variety of research areas. Household appliances are still the most promising applications. Fuel cell modeling is still a critical topic to focus on, affecting each stage of power system design. This paper describes an empirical method to model a proton exchange membrane fuel cell. The modeling approach is applied to a 5kW Nuvera PowerFlow fuel cell. A circuit model is proposed for further applications. PSPICE implementation is described and the parameters tuning procedure is discussed. Simulation and exper…
A Testing Facility for Refrigerating Plants Equipment Working with New Fluids
2013
A test rig was built in the department of energy, in laboratory of refrigerating engineering for test runs with a lot of fluid and equipment of various kind for commercial refrigeration. The facility has been continuously improved during the past years and allows to perform experiments aiming to assess the performance characteristics both of conventional and new equipment for commercial refrigeration. In the test rig can be tested a lot of cooling loop filled with a secondary fluid for simulation of their behavior in industrial and commercial plants (e.g.: during exploitation in supermarket and hypermarket for refrigeration of foodstuffs in cold store, display cases and cabinets, etc.). The…
On the sway stability improvement of car–caravan systems by articulated connections
2015
The present analysis is addressed to some promising connection arrangements between the towing vehicles and the towed trailers, where the two units are linked by four-bar isosceles trapeziums in place of the conventional pintle hitch. Two types of instability, of the divergent type or the oscillating type, may be analysed by the Routh–Hurwitz criterion or by the direct analysis of the characteristic equation. The constant term of this equation vanishes at the divergent instability threshold (zero of a real root), whereas the equation splits into two lower degree algebraic ‘sub-equations’ when the oscillating instability arises (pair of pure imaginary roots). A large field of geometrical con…
A back to back method for the temperature rise test of prefabricated substations: A case study
2015
In this work a back to back method is presented which allows to develop heating tests of prefabricated secondary substations with a limited number of supplying equipment (an induction regulator and a capacitor bank). The proposed method makes use of the transformer tap changers to create a voltage difference on the medium voltage side. In this way, only an adjunctive low voltage supply is needed. With the proposed test system, the heating tests are developed on a 1000 kVA prefabricated substation. Thanks to the experimental tests, the class of enclosure of the substation and the operating temperature and resistance of the power transformers are determined, according to the recommendations o…
Evaluation of radiated EMI in 42 V vehicle electrical systems by FDTD simulation
2007
In this paper a full 3D numerical scheme, based on the finite difference time domain method, is used to predict the electromagnetic radiated interference generated by 42 V vehicle power electronic driven electrical loads. An experimental set-up has been arranged on purpose in order to validate the proposed simulation tool. To this aim, the features of a semi-anechoic electromagnetic chamber have been exploited in order to operate in a shielded test site for the measurement of near field radiated emissions. Two different three-dimensional geometrical configurations of realistic vehicle installations of the loads, are studied. A comparative analysis among measured and computed results is perf…
The strategies for the diffusion of EVs: Focus on Norway and Italy
2017
The goal of this work is to predict e-mobility trends which are essential for understanding the market and the infrastructure development over the next years. Nowadays among the many and different standards and rules there are two charging categories for electric vehicles: High power DC and AC charging modes. It will be interesting to see which technology will prevail in the next few years and if the charging mode option on a given EV affects its sales performance. This study presents the current e-mobility scenario in Norway and Italy, in particular analyzing: EV technical and commercial features, electric vehicle market related national incentive policies, technical and diffusion connecto…
