Asymmetry in inter-municipal cooperation in health services - How does it affect service quality and autonomy?

2021

Throughout Europe, local health services are increasingly being provided through various forms of inter-municipal cooperation (IMC). One of the most common forms of IMC is when small municipalities delegate the operational responsibility for providing health services to a larger host municipality. However, despite the size asymmetry usually inherent in this type of IMC, this aspect has largely been neglected in the existing literature, which mainly focuses on the size of individual municipalities. Based on data from 97 partner municipalities and 25 host municipalities in Norway, this study examines how varying degrees of size asymmetry between them affect the perceived service quality and l…

The role of organizational facilitators in promoting job-related mental health and group service effectiveness: a two-wave analysis

2016

This study aimed to add to knowledge by providing a more systematic integration of work characteristics, workers’ health and performance. The two-wave multi-source study was conducted to test the relationship over time between the healthy states of groups of service-oriented workers and their service effectiveness when their organizations provide facilitators such as training, technical support and autonomy. The study takes healthy states to be a composite of affective-motivational and competent collective states (collective vigour and service competence) and service effectiveness. Service effectiveness was a combination of service quality as assessed by customers and their loyalty intentio…

Sustainable lighting design through the analysis of spatial and time non-uniformities in natural lighting with the metric of the information theory

2014

The indoor visual comfort of subjects faced with indoor ambient lighting varies with the position of the subject and is not constant over time. Average performance indexes, such as the mean value of Daylight Factor and Daylight Autonomy, are commonly used to analyse lighting distribution. These indexes, however, don’t properly take into account either the spatial or the time distribution of values affecting the non-uniformity of environmental lighting. Indeed, these are limited to the definition of a mean value or to the assessment of time availability of daylighting. This paper examines spatial and temporal non-uniformities in indoor lighting as possible causes of discomfort for occupants.…

Mimicking human autonomy in industrial robotic enabled sensing

2022

Humans have an immediate perception of shapes and surroundings through their senses and their cognitive capabilities. This innate ability enables the manual inspection of components in manufacturing environments. Trained inspectors combine their senses and handling skills with bespoke non-destructive testing instrumentation. However, manual inspections can be slow for large and/or complex geometries and prone to human factors. Automated non-destructive testing systems have emerged in recent years, to increase data acquisition speed, part coverage and inspection reliability. These tools work well when the robotic inspection takes place in a well-structured environment and an accurate part mo…

Multi-Platform Agent Systems with Dynamic Reputation Policy Management

2011

Open, distributed multi-platform agent systems require new management approaches for resources and data secure access. In this paper a Jade-S based multi-platform agent system implementing dynamic reputation policy management is proposed. The implemented extension deals with biometrics, X-Security, DES cryptography and agent reputation. With more details, the proposed reputation management system helps to assess the agent's behavior and reliability, in order to select trusted agents. This is made possible by the knowledge that agents are able to acquire, over time, and that allows them to choose the best solution using own intelligence in total autonomy.

Decision Process in Human-Agent Interaction: Extending Jason Reasoning Cycle

2019

The main characteristic of an agent is acting on behalf of humans. Then, agents are employed as modeling paradigms for complex systems and their implementation. Today we are witnessing a growing increase in systems complexity, mainly when the presence of human beings and their interactions with the system introduces a dynamic variable not easily manageable during design phases. Design and implementation of this type of systems highlight the problem of making the system able to decide in autonomy. In this work we propose an implementation, based on Jason, of a cognitive architecture whose modules allow structuring the decision-making process by the internal states of the agents, thus combini…

Il negozio giuridico nel pensiero di Renato Scognamiglio e gli sviluppi verso una concezione normativa del negozio

2021

The essay analyzes the significant contribution of Renato Scognamiglio to the scientific reflection on the juridical act, starting from the monographic study of 1950 "Contributo alla teoria del negozio giuridico". The topicality of Scognamiglio's thought allows us to return to reflect on private autonomy and on the general instrument of its exercise, the juridical act, understood as an act of self-regulation. Starting from the studies of Scognamiglio, the author proposes a normative conception of the juridical act, which offers the most adequate understanding scheme of the relationships between private autonomy and state order

The essay deals with the issue of the Sicilian specialty within the framework of the constitutional reform project which excluded regions with a special statute from its scope. Although the constitutional r…

Quattro nodi maggiori del Sistema nazionale di istruzione in Italia

2021

Teacher training, professional qualification and recruitment. Rethinking of school autonomy as part of a more ambitious administration reform. The birth rate as an opportunity to use economies in challenging policies. The strengthening of post-secondary but not university higher technical training. There are four goals on which the Italian school needs urgent re- form measures to improve its performance. However, it is necessary not to pay attention only to the “internal voices”.
