Neurologic complications of symptomatic COVID-19 are common. Brain tissues from 13 autopsies of people who died of COVID-19 were examined. Cultured endothelial and neuronal cells were incubated with and wild type mice were injected IV with different spike subunits. In situ analyses were used to detect SARS-CoV-2 proteins and the host response. In 13/13 brains from fatal COVID-19, pseudovirions (spike, envelope, and membrane proteins without viral RNA) were present in the endothelia of microvessels ranging from 0 to 14 positive cells/200× field (mean 4.3). Epilepsy in neuropathologically verified Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract Purpose Subjects with Alzheimer's disease (AD) have been shown to be at a higher risk for epilepsy. The vast majority of the previous studies have not included a full neuropathological examination. Methods The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of epilepsy and clinicopathological characteristics in a well-defined study group of 64 subjects with AD. We evaluated the clinicopathological findings in 64 subjects (mean age at death 85 ± 8.6 years) from a longitudi-nal study cohort of patients with dementia. Abstract The microvascular architecture of the spleen plays an important role in the immunological function of this organ. The different types of vessels are related to different reticular cells each with their own immunomodulatory functions. The subventricular zone (SVZ) is a principal source of adult neural stem cells in the rodent brain, generating thousands of olfactory bulb neurons every day. If the adult human brain contains a comparable germinal region, this could have considerable implications for future neuroregenerative therapy. The differential diagnosis of vasculitis is often a difficult task due to the frequent morphological similarities that various vasculitic syndromes express when the heart is the target organ. Manifestation and ultrastructural typing of amyloid deposits in the heart

Using light and electron microscopy, 65 cases of amyloid deposits in the heart were examined. Five different groups were distinguished: I. isolated atrial amyloidosis, II. senile cardiac amyloidosis, III. cardiac amyloid accompanying chronic infections and tumors, IV. cardiac amyloid accompanying plasma cell dyscrasia, V. idiopathic cardiac amyloidosis. Seen structurally, no principal differences in the precise localization of the amyloid deposits were found in any of the groups investigated. Psoriasis arthropathica und Amyloidose

Von insgesamt 5 Psoriasis arthropathica-Kranken wurden 4 rectumbioptisch, einer autoptisch auf das Vorliegen einer Amyloidose hin untersucht. Bei einem Patienten konnte ein positiver Amyloidnachweis gefuhrt werden. Es handelte sich dabei wie bei allen in der Literatur aufgefuhrten Fallen um die sekundare bzw. periretikulare Form der Amyloidablagerung. Anhand des vorliegenden Schrifttums wird die Haufigkeit einer Amyloidose bei Psoriatikern diskutiert, es werden Unterschiede zur Amyloidose bei primar chronischen Polyarthritis-Kranken aufgezeigt sowie Moglichkeiten der Amyloidgenese bei Psoriasis erortert.

The increasing application of sophisticated electrophysiological, radiological and surgical methods to the diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal disorders requires a profound knowledge of the size and proportions of the human larynx and it's cartilaginous components.
