Simple endoscopic decompression of cubital tunnel syndrome with the Agee system: anatomic study and first clinical results.

BACKGROUND Simple decompression in ulnar nerve compression syndromes offers options for endoscopic applications. OBJECTIVE The authors present their initial experience with the Agee device. PATIENTS AND METHODS The monoportal endoscopic technique (Agee system) was evaluated on 10 cadaveric arms. Subsequently, 32 arms of 29 patients were operated on between January 2006 and March 2009. All patients presented with typical clinical signs and neurophysiologic studies. Long-term follow-up examinations were obtained in 27 of 32 arms. Analysis of F-wave in metabolic neuropathies: a comparative study in uremic and diabetic patients.

Motor nerve conduction study along the entire length of the ulnar and tibialis posterior nerves was carried out in 30 diabetics compared with 30 uremic patients and 30 control subjects. The conduction in the proximal and the distal nerve segments was evaluated by the determination of the M and F latencies, MNCV (between the stimulus sites), FWCV (between the spinal cord and the stimulus sites), and F-ratio (conduction time ratio of proximal to distal segment). Intravenous immunoglobulin in primary and secondary chronic progressive multiple sclerosis: a randomized placebo controlled multicentre study

In patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS), IVIG was shown to reduce the relapse rate and progression of disability. In patients with chronic progressive MS, a beneficial effect of IVIG was not documented in placebo controlled studies. This trial investigated the influence of IVIG in primary (PPMS) and secondary (SPMS) chronic progressive MS. Two-hundred and thirty-one patients stratified for PPMS ( n = 34) and SPMS ( n = 197) were randomly assigned to IVIG 0.4 g/kg per month or to placebo for 24 months. Effects of transcranial direct current stimulation on esophageal motility in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease

To evaluate the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on esophageal peristalsis in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).Patients with GERD preliminary diagnosis were included in a randomized double-blind sham-controlled study. Investigation into isoprenaline resistance in patients with obstructive lung disease

12 patients with chronic obstructive lung disease have been studied in an investigation regarding the causes of resistance to isoprenaline. The effects of repeated intravenous doses of 10 µg isoprenaline were assessed by cross over comparison before and after infusions of isoprenaline and a placebo; the infusions lasted for 35 to 40 min and the amount of isoprenaline infused was 0.5 µg/min. Total resistance, thoracic gas volume (whole-body plethysmography) and heart rate (ECG) were measured. No decrease in bronchospasmolytic or positive chronotopic effects on single isoprenaline injections could be demonstrated after prolonged infusions of isoprenaline.

Graves ophthalmopathy: role of MR imaging in radiation therapy.

Twenty-three patients with Graves ophthalmopathy who underwent radiation therapy were monitored by means of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. T2 relaxation times of extraocular muscles and orbital fat, areas of extraocular muscles, and degree of exophthalmos were measured by means of MR imaging at the beginning, at the end, and 3 months after completion of radiation therapy. As a result, patients with primarily elevated T2 times of extraocular muscles showed a better therapy response regarding muscle thickening than patients with primarily normal T2 times. Ciclosporin and prednisone v. prednisone in treatment of Graves' ophthalmopathy: a controlled, randomized and prospective study.

Forty patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy stages III-V were divided into two groups in a random manner according to their year of birth. Group I received prednisone in decreasing dosage. Group II received prednisone at a comparable dosage and ciclosporin. Steroids were discontinued after 10 weeks in the two groups. In the patients of group II, ciclosporin was continued over 12 months. Comparison of cyclodeviation and duction measurement in Graves' orbitopathy patients using different devices

To compare measurement outcomes of different devices measuring cyclodeviation and ductions in Graves' orbitopathy (GO) patients. Cyclodeviation in GO patients was measured using the Harms tangent screen (HTS), the cycloforometer of Franceschetti, and the synoptometer. Ductions were measured using the modified perimeter, the Goldmann perimeter and the Maddox tangent scale (MTS). In 13 patients, cyclodeviation in primary position, up-, and downgaze was measured with the above-mentioned devices.
