Solutions to the NLS equation : differential relations and their different representations

2020

Solutions to the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) of order N depending on 2N − 2 real parameters in terms of wronskians and Fredholm determinants are given. These solutions give families of quasirational solutions to the NLS equation denoted by vN and have been explicitly constructed until order N = 13. These solutions appear as deformations of the Peregrine breather PN as they can be obtained when all parameters are equal to 0. These quasi rational solutions can be expressed as a quotient of two polynomials of degree N (N + 1) in the variables x and t and the maximum of the modulus of the Peregrine breather of order N is equal to 2N + 1. Here we give some relations between sol…

The funerary area and the gallo-roman site of la “Barrière du Lot” in les Martres-de-Veyre (Puy-de-Dôme): old records and new data

2020

Located in the so-called “Barrière du Lot” in the Martres-de-Veyre district, the “Chaumes d’Allier” funerary area consists of a burial site which was excavated between 1851 and 1923. The exceptional state of preservation of the organic remains which were unearthed there (hair, coffins, pieces of clothing, funerary furniture) granted the site its world-wide reputation although, paradoxically, it remained somewhat overlooked as a whole. The recent discovery of unpublished archival materials relating to the 19th-century and early 20th-century excavations, together with an archeo-anthropological study of the documents found at the Bargoin Museum in Clermont-Ferrand, provide a brand-new spatial …

PSA-based phase regeneration of DPSK signals in a silicon germanium waveguide

2015

We demonstrate a polarization-assisted PSA-based phase regenerator in a passive low-birefringence SiGe waveguide at low CW pump power. A PSER of 28.6-dB enables a six-fold reduction in phase-error and BER improvement of approximately 2-dB in the regenerated signal.

ChemInform Abstract: Relaxation Phenomena of a Triplet Spin Probe in Glassy and Crystalline o-Terphenyl.

2010

The authors used quinoxaline in its photoexcited triplet state as a spin probe in order to measure the spin-lattice relaxation rate in o-terphenyl glass as a function of temperature. They found a power law with an exponent close to 2. Since o-terphenyl can easily be crystallized, they investigated the crystal, too. Below 3.5 K the spin is highly polarized, contrary to the behavior in the glass, where it reaches thermal equilibrium down to the lowest temperatures of their experiment (1.4 K). Around 3.5 K the polarization in the crystal vanishes. Above it appears with opposite sign due to thermal equilibration.

Positive Muons as Local Probes in Paramagnetic Rare Earth Systems

1982

In recent years a new research method has been developed in solid state physics which is based on the asymmetry of muon decay1. A positive muon at rest decays after a mean lifetime of 2.2 μsec into a positron and two neutrinos, the positron being emitted preferentially in the direction of the muon spin. Hence if spin polarized muons are implanted in a solid, the time evolution of the muon spin polarization can be determined by a measurement of the angular distribution of the positrons. In an external magnetic field transverse to the initial spin direction of the muon one can study the muon spin precession frequency, which is determined by the actual field at the muon, and τ2-relaxation effe…

High-pressure phases, vibrational properties, and electronic structure ofNe(He)2andAr(He)2: A first-principles study

2009

We have carried out a comprehensive first-principles study of the energetic, structural, and electronic properties of solid rare-gas RG-helium binary compounds, in particular, NeHe2 and ArHe2, under pressure and at temperatures within the range of 0T2000 K. Our approach is based on density-functional theory and the generalized gradient approximation for the exchange-correlation energy; we rely on total Helmholtz freeenergy calculations performed within the quasiharmonic approximation for most of our analysis. In NeHe2, we find that at pressures of around 20 GPa the system stabilizes in the MgZn2 Laves structure, in accordance to what was suggested in previous experimental investigations. In…

A laboratory cave for the study of wall degradation in rock art caves : an implementation in the Vézère area

2013

The aim of this proposal is to present an original approach to the study and preservation of rock art caves. A multidisciplinary study of cave wall alteration will be performed to understand the impact of environmental context on the evolution of wall surfaces. The approach involves the choice of a cave with characteristics similar to painted caves in the studied area (Vézère Valley in Dordogne, France): e.g., cave wall alteration, lithology, morphology, etc. This selected cave is intended to become a laboratory cave, monitored for the acquisition of chemical, physical and biological environmental data on bedrock, air and fluids along with their characteristics. A cave without art or archae…

Photonic Nambu-Goldstone bosons

2017

We study numerically the spatial dynamics of light in periodic square lattices in the presence of a Kerr term, emphasizing the peculiarities stemming from the nonlinearity. We find that, under rather general circumstances, the phase pattern of the stable ground state depends on the character of the nonlinearity: the phase is spatially uniform if it is defocusing whereas in the focusing case, it presents a chess board pattern, with a difference of $\pi$ between neighboring sites. We show that the lowest lying perturbative excitations can be described as perturbations of the phase and that finite-sized structures can act as tunable metawaveguides for them. The tuning is made by varying the in…

Proposal of a Citrus translational genomic approach for early and infield detection of Flavescence dorée in Vitis

2014

Flavescence dore´e (FD) is one of the most widely known grapevine yellows disease and one of the most unabated worldwide in the viticulture sector. In this paper, we outline a strategy for developing an integrated system of technologies to enable rapid, early disease FD detection and diagnosis. We propose the deployment of a newly developed sensor device, the differential mobility spectrometer (DMS), which has shown positive results with a similar vector-borne disease in Citrus. We have previously demonstrated that the gas chromatograph DMS (GC/DMS) can distinguish various citrus diseases, and the system may also allow detection of volatile organic compound (VOC) signals from a tree of othe…
