Inductance Calculations for Circular Coils of Rectangular Cross Section and Parallel Axes Using Bessel and Struve Functions

2010

A simple method for calculating the mutual and self inductances of circular coils of rectangular cross section and parallel axes is presented. The method applies to non-coaxial as well as coaxial coils, and self inductance can be calculated by considering two identical coils which coincide in space. It is assumed that current density is homogeneous in the coil windings. The inductances are given in terms of one-dimensional integrals involving Bessel and Struve functions, and an exact solution is given for one of these integrals. The remaining terms can be evaluated numerically to great accuracy using computer packages such as Mathematica. The method is compared with other exact methods for …

Filter performance parameters for vectorial high-aperture wave fields.

2008

Performance parameters have been presented that can be used to compare the focusing performance of different optical systems, including the effect of pupil filters. These were originally given for the paraxial case and recently extended to the high-aperture scalar regime. We generalize these parameters to the full vectorial case for an aplanatic optical system illuminated by a plane-polarized wave. The behavior of different optical systems is compared.

First observation of trapped high-field seeking ultracold neutron spin states

2011

Ultracold neutrons were stored in a volume, using a magnetic dipole field shutter. Radial confinement was provided by material walls. Low-field seeking neutrons were axially confined above the magnetic field. High-field seeking neutrons are trapped inside the magnetic field. They can systematically shift the measured neutron lifetime to lower values in experiments with magnetic confinement. ISSN:0370-2693 ISSN:0031-9163 ISSN:1873-2445

Position resolution of the prototype AGATA triple-cluster detector from an in-beam experiment

2009

AGATA belongs to a new generation of gamma-ray detector arrays for nuclear spectroscopy at present in its final stage of development. The detectors of these new arrays will be based on 36-fold electronically segmented coaxial germanium diodes operated in position sensitive mode. An in-beam test of the AGATA prototype triple cluster detector was carried out with the purpose of demonstrating the feasibility of such detectors and in order to measure the most sensitive parameters for their overall performance. An inverse kinematics reaction was performed, using a (48)Ti beam at an energy of 100MeV, impinging on a deuterated titanium tat-get. The results from the analysis of the experimental dat…

Consistent large-scale shell-model analysis of the two-neutrino ββ and single β branchings in 48Ca and 96Zr

2020

Abstract Two-neutrino double-beta-decay matrix elements M 2 ν and single beta-decay branching ratios were calculated for 48Ca and 96Zr in the interacting nuclear shell model using large single-particle valence spaces with well-tested two-body Hamiltonians. For 48Ca the matrix element M 2 ν = 0.0511 is obtained, which is 5.5% smaller than the previously reported value of 0.0539. For 96Zr this work reports the first large-scale shell-model calculation of the nuclear matrix element, yielding a value M 2 ν = 0.0747 with extreme single-state dominance. These matrix elements, combined with the available ββ-decay half-life data, yield effective values of the weak axial coupling which in turn are u…

Isospin-invariant Skyrme energy-density-functional approach with axial symmetry

2014

We develop the isospin-invariant Skyrme-EDF method by considering local densities in all possible isospin channels and proton-neutron (p-n) mixing terms as mandated by the isospin symmetry. The EDF employed has the most general form that depends quadratically on the isoscalar and isovector densities. We test and benchmark the resulting p-n EDF approach, and study the general properties of the new scheme by means of the cranking in the isospin space. We extend the existing axial DFT solver HFBTHO to the case of isospin-invariant EDF approach with all possible p-n mixing terms. Explicit expressions have been derived for all the densities and potentials that appear in the isospin representatio…

Gluonic contributions in the chiral hyperbag

1990

Abstract We incorporate into a non-perturbative chiral bag model scheme the gluons and the η' in a perturbative fashion. We analyze in this context the proton matrix element for the flavor singlet axial current, where due account is taken of the anomaly, and the delta-nucleon mass difference. Our results show that the contribution due to the gluons is significant for large bag radii and that they are crucial in order to establish the Cheshire cat principle.

Spin-dipole nuclear matrix elements for double beta decays and astro-neutrinos

2014

Spin-dipole (SD) nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) M±(SD2) for unique first forbidden β±2−→0+ ground-state-to-ground-state transitions are studied by using effective microscopic two-nucleon interactions in realistic single-particle model spaces. The observed values of the NMEs Mexp±(SD2) are compared with the values of the single-quasiparticle NMEs Mqp±(SD2) without nucleon spin–isospin (στ) correlation and the QRPA NMEs MQRPA±(SD2) with the στ correlation. The observed SD matrix elements are found to be reduced by the factor k≈0.2 with respect to Mqp±(SD2) and by the factor kNM≈0.5 with respect to MQRPA±(SD2). We then infer that the SD NME is reduced considerably partly by the nucleon στ corr…
