Spatial Representation of Plant Diversity at Geographical Scale: The Italian Experience

2021

The first attempts to draw up plant biodiversity maps in Italy are identified, some of which represent re-workings of data collected for chorological atlases of geographic areas of different extents. These were based particularly on the UTM grid, introduced and codified in Italy by Pignatti [6]. The limited examples made in Italy concern regional, provincial or district areas, some also in protected natural areas. As examples considered original, the maps developed at the Phytotaxonomy and Phytogeography Laboratory of the University of Palermo are presented. These involve the province of Palermo, the Madonie Natural Park in Palermo province, and the eastern Sicani mountains. The map of this…

Seed morphology of Linaria species from eastern Spain: identification of species and taxonomic implications

2001

Abstract Seed morphology of 15 taxa of Linaria from eastern Spain has been studied using stereoscopic and scanning electron microscopy. Four different morphological types are described according to features of the seed-coat surface. The type that includes winged seeded taxa is divided into three subtypes. Seed morphology of each type and subtype is described, compared, illustrated and discussed according to its taxonomic and biological implications. A key to identify the different species or groups of species is also supplied.

The genus Scaphiostomum Braun, 1901 (Trematoda: Brachylaimidae): A systematic review and description of Scaphiostomum palaearcticum n. sp.

1986

A systematic review of the genus Scaphiostomum Braun, 1901 (Trematoda: Brachylaimidae) is presented. Its diagnosis is emended and its position within the subfamily Brachylaiminae Joyeux & Foley, 1930 is established. The subfamily Scaphiostominae Yamaguti, 1958 is considered a synonym of the Brachy-laiminae. Scaphiostomum comprises the following species: S. illatabile Braun, 1901 (type species) from birds in South America, S. pancreaticum McIntosh, 1934 and S. microti (Kruidenier & Gallicchio, 1959) n. comb., both from rodents in North America, and S. palaearcticum n. sp. from rodents in the Balearic Islands (Spain). Scaphiostomum sp. of Lim, 1967 from rodents in Malaysia probably constitute…

Two New Heteropodine Genera from Southern Continental Asia (Araneae: Sparassidae)

2000

Two new genera of the subfamily Heteropodinae (Araneae: Sparassidae) are described from southern continental Asia: Pseudopoda gen. nov. and Bhutaniella gen. nov. Type species are designated and described: Pseudopoda prompta (OP-Cambridge 1885) COMB. NOV. and Bhutaniella hillyardi sp. nov. The following species, originally described as Heteropoda spp., are included in Pseudopoda gen. nov.: P. casaria (Simon 1897) COMB. NOV., P. exigua (Fox 1938) COMB. NOV., P. exiguoides (Song & Zhu 1999) COMB. NOV., P. grahami (Fox 1936) COMB. NOV., P. lushanensis (Wang 1990) COMB. NOV., P. virgata (Fox 1936) COMB. NOV., P. zhangmuensis (Hu & Li 1983) COMB. SERVICE-ORIENTED BUSINESS MODELS IN MANUFACTURING IN THE DIGITAL ERA: TOWARD A NEW TAXONOMY

2020

A stream of servitisation research has focused on the construction of taxonomies and typologies of product–service system business models (BMs). However, their relevance in the context of increased utilisation of digital technologies may be questioned. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to empirically revisit the existing product–service system BM taxonomies to explore the following research question: How can the BMs of servitised manufacturing firms be categorised in the digital era? The question is addressed through an embedded case study of five servitised firms. We found that the firms’ BMs varied with regard to the degree of the suppliers’ ownership of delivered products, degree of sma…

Influence of geographical extent on typology- and model-based assessments of taxonomic completeness of river macroinvertebrates

2009

Summary 1. River InVertebrate Prediction and Classification System (RIVPACS)-type predictive models are increasingly used to assess the biological condition of freshwaters, but management schemes may also be based on a priori groupings of similar water bodies (typologies) to control for natural variation in biota. The two approaches may lead to disagreements of the biological status of a site, depending on, for example, the spatial scale at which assessments are conducted. 2. We used data from 96 reference and 134 potentially impacted sites from Western and Central Finland to compare RIVPACS-type models and a simple size-based typology of rivers for the assessment of taxonomic completeness …

Slipper lobsters from Atlantic waters: revision of Scyllarus Fabricius, 1775 (Crustacea: Scyllaridae) using a multiple-evidence approach

2020
